MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNORS TO GEORGE B. GRAFF MASSACHUSETTS, CORPORATION OF MASSACHUSETTS STEWART, OF WATERTOWN, COMPANY, OF CAMBRIDGE,
l SIGNAL nevica Appnqmon med August is, 1930. serial No. 476290.
This invention relates to clips adapted to be attached to the margins of cards, files or other indexed sheets and to serve as a si al identifying the subject matter on the s eet or supplying other information pertaining grip and retain the clip thereon against rela- -t1ve 'an lar movement or casual detachment. heouter face of the leg 8 of the cl1p may `be colored or otherwise marked to serve as a suitable signal, as indicated 55 thereto. The principal object of the invention is to provide an improved slip si nal of simple and durable construction w ichl ypreferred method of attaching the clip to a for example by the red color of Fi 1; or one of said portions, for example t e ortion 15 of themodiied clip shown in ig. 6, mayhave a window aperture 16 to display a signal marked on the/card itself, as the numeral 4. l
A signal clip constructed` as above described is simple and inexpensive to manui facture, easily and securely aiixed to an index sheet, and adapted to carry or display a variety of signals. clearly visible even though the sheet isl assembled with others in a book or filing system; get the clip does not project appreciably eyond the edge of the card and is thus less likely to be dislodged or damaged.
We claim: v1. A signal device for index systems,'corn The signal clip isvr card; and prising a pair of legs of thin resilient ma- Fig. d is a :face view of a modified form terial adapted to receive and grip a card 75 of clip. therebetween, said legs being connected to- The improved device comprises a sprin clip'formed of resilient sheet metal'folde transversely at 7 to furnish two legs 8 and 9 respectively which are normally urged toward each other by the resiliency of the clip. The free ends of the legs 8 and 9 are preferably rounded at their lower ends as at 10 and 11.
The structure is preferably made-with one leg 8 fiat, while the other leg 9 is provided with inwardly struck depressions or indentations 12 and 13 disposed in spaced relation and normally contacting with the inner face of the leg 8, thereby contacting gether at one end of said clip and in contact adjacent their free ends, said device havin two longitudinally spaced indentations and each of said indentations adapted to grip a card against the inner face of the opposing leg, said indentations being spaced apart and with one indentation suiiciently close to theffree end of said leg to permit the intermediate portion of the device between saidindentations to be pinched between the fingers to suiiiciently separate the normally contacting free ends of said legs to readily permit the insertion of a card therebetween, the indentation adjacent the vfree end acting as a fulcrum for such purpose.
2. A signal device for index systems, comprising la pair oflegs of thin resilient matel rial adapted to receive and grip a card therebetween, said legs being connected together at onel end of said clip and in contact adjacent their free ends one leg having two longitudinally spaced .1ndentations on the inner side thereof, adapted .to grip a card against the inner face of the opposing leg, mi
said indentations being spaced apart and with one indentation sufficiently close to the free end of said leg'to permit the legs between said indentations to be pinched between the fingers to suiiiciently separate the normally contacting free ends of said legs to readily permit the insertion of a card therebetween, the indentation adjacent the free end acting asa fulcrum for such purpose. 1o
3. A signal device for index systems, comprising a pair of legs of thin resilient materialadapted to receive and grip a card therebetween, said le being connected together at one end of said clip and in contact adjacent their free ends, one leg having two transverse ridges on the inner side thereof,`
adapted to grip a card against the inner face of the opposing leg, said ridges being spaced apart and with one ridge suiciently closeV to the free end of said leg to permit the leg between said ridges to be pinched between p the fingers to suiiciently separate` the normall contactin free ends of said legs to readlly permit t e insertion of a card therebetween, the ridge adjacent the free end acting as a ulcrum for such ur ose.
