This invention relates to a metallic truck body designed primaril for the haulage of boxes or crates of bottle oods, but it is to be understood that a truck ody in accordance a with this invention may be employed for the haulage of any objects for which it is found applicable, and the invention has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a truck body having a reinforced and to unusually durable bottom constructed to reduce damage thereto when loading to a minimum, to prevent in case of liquid leaking thereon from a crate, box or barrel during haulage the liquid from spreading and damaging adjacent crates, boxes or barrels, and further to provide for drainage therefrom in case of 1i uid leaking thereon.
Witht e foregoing and other objects in view the-invention consists of the novel con W struction, combination and arran ement of parts as hereinafter more spec' cally described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended. In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts througout the several views:

A truck bottom or deck in accordance with this invention includes side and end sills and a corrugated flooring secured to the sills. With reference to Figures 1 to 5 the sills are in the form of angle irons having vertical and horizontal legs and with the flooring secured to and upon the horizontal legs and of less height than the vertical legs. The end sills are indicated at 1, 2 and the side sills at 3, 4. The vertical legs of the sills are designated 5 and the horizontal le s 6.
With reference to Figure 1 the flooring is indicated at 7 and abuts against the vertical legs 5 of the side sills 3,4. The flooring 7 is transversely corrugated as indicated at 8 and l in longitudinal section the flooring 7 consists of oppositely disposed V-shaped portions. The flooring 7 has its ends extend upon the horizontal portions of the end rails and also abut a ainst the vertical portions thereof. Exten ing lengthwise of the lower face of the flooring 7 are T-shaped brace members 9 arranged in spaced relation and which have the end portions of the heads thereof cut away so that the remaining portions of the heads will abut against the lower face of the flooring. The end portions of the stems of the members 9 are welded against the lower face of the horizontal portions of the end sills. The corrugations provide channels 10 for collecting leakage and to revent the spreading of the leakage throug out the, upper face of the flooring.
The form shown in Figure 4 is the same as that shown in Figure 2, with this exception that the flooring 11 is lengthwise corrugated and the T-shaped brace members 12 are disposed transversely with respect to the flooring. The lengthwise corrugations of the flooring 11 are indicated at 13 and the channels provided by the corrugations are designated 14;. The T-shaped brace members 12 have the end portions of their heads cut away so that the remaining portions of the heads can be secured to the lower face of the flooring 11. The end portions of the stems of the braces are secured to the horizontal legs of the side sills 3, 4.
The form shown in Figure 5 is the same as that shown in Fi ure 4, with the exception that the corrugatmns of the flooring, indicated at 15, are semi-circular in cross section a had which fall within the The floorings are provided with drainage openings, at the bottom of the channels formed in the upper face of the flooring, and by reference to Figure 6 a corrugated flooring is indicated at 26'and provided with drainage 0 enings 27 at the bottom of the channels 28. t is to be understood that the drainage openings 27 can be positioned at any suitable point or points throughout the flooring.
It is thought the many advantages of a truck bottom or deck, constructed in accord ance with this-invention, can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiments of the invention are as illustrated and described, yet it is, to be understood that changes in the details of construction can be scope of the invention as claimed. 4
- What I claim is: a
1. A truck body comprising side and end sills, each of said sills being of angle-shaped cross section to provide a vertical and a horizontal leg, said horizontal legs extending inwardly from the lower ends of said vertical legs, a corrugated flooring secured to said sills, abutting the upper faces of the horizontal legs and the inner faces of the vertical legs, and spaced, parallel brace members sev cured to the lower faces of the horizontal legs of opposed sills and t0 the lower bends of said flooring, the lower bends in said flooring pro-- Vided with spaced drain openings.
2. A truck body comprising side and end sills, each of said sills being of angle-shaped cross section to provide a vertical and a horizontal leg, said horizontal legs extending inwardlyfrom the lower ends of said vertical legs, a flooring corrugated throughout and secured to said sills and having its edges sealed byvsaid vertical legs, T-shaped brace members having the end portions of the heads thereof cut away, the remaining portions of the heads of said brace members positioned against the lower faces of the lower bends of said flooring, said remaining portions of the heads of said brace members positioned be: tween the horizontal legs of opposed sills, and said brace members being secured to the lower faces of the'horizontal legs of opposed sills 4. A truck body comprising side andend sills, each of angled shape cross section to provide a vertical'and a. horizontal leg, said hori zontal legs extending inwardly from the lower ends of the vertical legs, a flooring corrugated throughout, extending upon and secured to opposed horizontal legsand opposing the inner faces of opposed vertical legs, said flooring having its upper bends positioned below the upper ends of the vertical legs and its lower bends positioned throughout above said horizontal legs, the said lower bends being provided with drain openings, and brace members secured to opposed hori zontal legs and having their tops positioned below said lower bends.
