Description
May 19, 1931. s. ABE 1,806,232
PHOTOGRAPH DEVELOPING DEVICE Filed July 24, 1928 Patented May 19, 1931 UNITED STATES SHOTARO ABE, OF HONGOKU, JAPAN PHOTOGRAPH DEVELOPING DEVICE Application filed July 24, 1928, Serial No. 294,962, and in Japan August 22, 1927.
This invention is an improved photograph developing device consisting of an outer case having an opening and closing cover at one end, an inner case having an open upper side incorporated with the outer case by being inserted partly through an opening in the top side of the outer case, and a crown cover resting upon the open upper side of the inner case for hermetically closing the said open upper side. The said cover is provided with a thermometer one end of which protrudes into the inner case, a liquid charge pipe provided at the top with a trumpet like mouth, an inspecting opening having a red glass plate and a sliding closure for opening and shutting the said window.
The invention has for its object to provide an improved device by means of which the developement of a photograph may be proceeded with successfully, without the use of a dark room.
The device according to the present invention is not only adapted for use in developing, but may also be utilized for the subsequent washing and fixing of photographs.
In the accompanying drawings, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a sectional View of the same.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is an outer caseeof suitable material, 2 gauge glass, 3 a window fitted with an opening and shutting cover 4 hinged at one side and provided with a handle 5, 6 an inner case with the upper side open and incorporated with the outer case by being partly inserted in the opening cut in the upper wall of the outer case as shown, 7 a liquid discharge pipe, 8 a.
crown glass resting on the open upper side, of the inner case for covering the latter tight- 1y, 9 a liquid charge pipe extending through the cover 8, 10 a trumpet like mouth forming the top mouth of the pipe 9, 11 an inspecting opening furnished with a red glass plate, members 12 along both sides, the said members having inside grooves for receiving a sliding door 13 for opening and closing the said opening, 14 a thermometer having one end protruding into the interior of the inner case, and 15 a screw plug which is normally in the position shown but which may be removed for the purpose hereinafter described.
The device according to the present invention is particularly serviceable in summer and winter at their height, because it admits of ice or hot water being placed within the space between the outer and inner cases so that developing, washing and fixing operations may be timed at moderate degrees as generally known. It may also be used in spring and autumn, in which seasons the said space may be utilized for storing the developing liquid which is comparatively sensible to the action of ray or light, by removing the screw plug 15, discharging the liquid into the said space and replacing the screw plug,
as will be understood.
The device is used in summer as follows: the cover 4 is opened by means of the handle 5, ice and water placed into the outer case 1, the bat and the dry plate to be developed placed therein accommodated into the inner case, and after having the pipe 7 closed by any suitable means, for example by a cork, the developing liquid is charged through the mouth 10 and the pipe 9 into the latter and on the development being thus commenced the sliding door 13 is moved for opening the inspecting opening 11, so that the process of development may be noted.
The thermometer is used to ascertain the temperature of the hot liquid.
WVhen the final stage of the development is reached the device is slightly inclined for* pouring out the liquid through the discharge pipe 7, after which the washing and fixing operations are performed with the same device in the same manner as that of the development.
In winter, the operations mentioned above are also performed wholly in the same manner as described, excepting that hot water is used, instead of ice or cold Water.
VVhat- I claim as my invention is:
A photograph developing apparatus, comprising an outer casing having a top provided near one end of said casing with an opening and a cover therefor, the top of said outer casing being also provided with a larger opening, an inner casing fitted in said larger opening and arranged With its bottom spaced from that of the outer casing, a cover for the inner casing hermetically fitted thereon and provided With an opening, a colored glass pan in said opening and an opaque closure for said opening arranged above said colored glass pan. 7
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
