Description
May 19, 1931. A. THOMAS 1,806,005 I FASTENING DEVICE Filed Oct. 16, 1929 Patented May 19, 1931 UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE ANDRE THOMAS, OF PARIS, FRANCE, ASSIGNOR T LOUISE THOMAS, OF PARIS, FRANCE rns'rnnrno DEVICE Application filed October 16, 1929, Serial No. 400,002, and in France September 26, 1929.
The present invention refers to a fastening device for the bands or straps of shoes or other articles, allowing for the fixing of these latter, which may by its means be more or less stretched according to requirements.
The invention is particularly suitable for use with low shoes and replaces with advantage buttons generally in use which must be moved according to the dimensions of the front of the foot over which passes the fixing strap or band, the length or this latter being thus regulable at will.
The annexed drawings show, by way of example, one constructional embodiment of the invention. In these drawings:
Fig. 1 shows a section of the fastening de vice.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the fixing button.
Fig. 3 is a plan of the support for this button.
Fig. 4 is a. perspective view of the button.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the support.
The device is constituted as shown at Fig.
1 in two parts, one of these the button proper 1 has a rounded head of any shape provided with a screw threaded stem 2, to the extremity of which is riveted the fastening plate 3. The other part consists of the support constituted by a cylindrical body a, hollow on the interior, and provided with two elongated openings 5 opposite to one another and placed on the periphery of this hollow body and intended for the passage of the band or strap of the shoe. .The upper portion of this support comprises a circular shouldered portion, perforated axially, with internal screw threads, the pitch of which corresponds to that of the screw threaded stem 2 of the button 1. The support is fixed on the shoe by means of fixing pegs 6, by sewing or by other like means of attachment.
To allow for the fixing of the shoe strap, it sufiices to slide the extremity of this latter through the elongated openings 5, and then to screw home the button 1. The fastening plate 3presses upon the leather of the strap or band which is thus held firmly without 50 the possibility of sliding.
It is obvious that the head of the button may serve to receive any ornamentation so as to give a new effect to the article.
Moreover, the button might be of any shape and manufactured or any material.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States of America 1s A. fastening device for the bands or straps of shoes comprising a supporting portion constituted by a shallow hollow cylindrical element, an integral end member to said element at one end thereof, a boss at the centre of said end member, a screw threaded bore through the boss and end member, a base member at the other end of the cylindrical body, projecting pegs from the base member adapted to be attached to the bodyof the shoeby sewing, two elongated slots through the curved wall of the hollow cylindrical element in diametrically opposite positions, and a clamping element constituted by a button, a central screw threaded stem projec .ing from the button and adapted to screw into and through the screw threaded bore in the end of the supporting member, and a plate fixed to the inner end of the said screw threaded stem within the interior of the hollow cylindrical element and adapted when the button is screwed down to come into clamping engagement with the band or strap of the shoe inserted through the elongated openings, for the purposes set forth.
In witness whereof I alliX my signature.
ANDRE THOMAS.
