Description
y 1931- H, B. CHAMBERLAIN 1,805,759
SAFE.
Filed Aug. 5, 1928 A TTORNEYS Patented May 19, 1931 HARRY IB. CHAMBERLAIN, OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN SAFE fApplieation filed August 3, 1928. Serial No. 297,170.
The main objects of this invention are: First, to provide a wall safe that is very simple in construction,
Second, to provide a supporting means that can be a part of the wall or may be a means remote therefrom as a post.
Third, to provide a series of looks with different keys to prevent the opening of the safe by a single person.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of construction will appear from the description to follow. I
A preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: 1
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my improved safe mounted on the wall. t r
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on line I o 2-2 of Fig. 1, showing mainly the method of securing the safe tothe wall.
i Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on line 33 of Fig. 1, the supporting means shown a being embedded in the wall. 1 V
Fig. 4 is a rear perspective View with parts broken away. to more clearly show the locking means.
Fig. 5 is a partial section taken on line 55 of Fig. 2, showing mainly the reinforcing means forthe locking bolts.
Referring to the drawings, 1; is my improved safe. 2, 2 arethe separated retaining bolts. 3 is a channel bar support ems bedded in the wall and floor, see Fig. 3. 4. is a recess in which the channel bar 3 is secured. 31 is a short channel bar with upturned ends embracing the bolt heads and holding them againstrot'ation, being disposed within the channel bar 3. V 5 is the door of the safe, being of the circular type. 51 is the supporting hinge therefor, which is'used only to support the door when it is in open position. 52 isa projecting lock lug cast integral with the door, which retains the door in place when closed and locked, so i is not sufficient to that breaking the hinge open the safe. 1
6, 6 are a pair of bolt locks provided with bolts 61, 62, and having separate and different keys 63, 64. 7 is a projecting T-shaped lug cast integral with the door, and 71, 71 are the arms thereof partially embracing the locking bolts and protecting the same. 3 8 is a lug cast integralwith the inner wall of the safe, having an inclined face 81 to protect the ends of the bolts from being exposed by'drilling. 9 is a projecting post cast integral with the rear 'wallof the safe and abutting the rear'of the lock to prevent the lock being driven in from the front. 10 is an elongated slot for the insertion of money.
A pairof locks 6 with different keys are 'used for a specialpurpose, as, for example, in
a gasoline station, where each of the attendants may carry a diiferentkey for. the locks and the only time the safe can be opened is when both keys are available.
Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim as new Patent is:
1. In a wall safe, the combination of an integral oastbox recessed at its back, a vertical channel bar disposed in said recess, and bolts projecting inwardly therethrough with nuts at'their inner ends for attaching said box, as specified.
2. In a safe, the combination of a cast body with flanged doorway, a flanged door desire to secure by Letters with inwardly-projecting lug for engaging j the side of the doorway, a bolt lock therefor, and a protecting lug for the bolt with a beveled surface oblique to the axis of the bolt, as specified.
3. Ina wall safe, the combination of the safewith a suitable lock thereon, anda post projecting from the back of the safe into proximity to the lockto support the same and prevent its being driven in, as specified.
4. In awall safe, the combination ofan integral cast box recessed: atits back, supports comprising a vertical channel bar disposed in said recess, bolts projecting inwardly therethro'ugh with nuts at their inner ends for attaching said box, and a locking channel bar'embracing the bolt heads and disposed within the main channel, the said supports being embedded in the wall, as specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
, HARRY B. CHAMBERLAIN.
