Journalled in the bracket 2 is a shaft 18, which is driven from any suitable source of power through means of a pulley 19 or the like. Formed on the inner end of the shaft 3 is a crank disc 20, and secured thereon is a. crank pin 21. Secured at the upper end of the planer head is a pin 22 and connecting the pin 22 and the crank pin 21 is a pitm'an or connecting rod 23. Hence, when shaft 18 is rotated, a reciprocal movement will be transmitted to the planer head. The table B, upon which the plaster cast is supported is mounted and secured in thefollowing manner. Formed on the base A are a pair of'l bearing lugs 24, Y and extending through said lugs and similar lugs formed on the lower surface of the table isa bearing pin 25. This pin forms a pivotal support for the inner end of the table and the outer end mayr thus be raised so that the surface of the table may assume any inclined or angular position desired, with relation to the planer head. In `most instances the table WillV assume a horizontal or right angular position with relation to the face of the planer head. In Athat instance, the free end of the ltable will be supported by an arm 27 pivotally secured in the base, as at 28. This arm is tilted out of the way of the table to assume the dottedlne position indicated at 127 a when it is not required. yVhen an angular or inclined position is desired, the free end of the table is supported by means of a link 29. The upperfend of the link is pivotally secured, asat 29a, to the lower side of the table. The lower end of the link is slotted, as indicatedat 30, and it straddlesy a clamping screw 31. This screw-is supported by, and extends through, twobearinglugs 32 and 33 formed on the base. The yl'ink passes between these bearing lugs and is clamped between the same. lfVhen the table has been adjusted to a desired angular position the clamping action is obtainedy by threading the bearing lug 33 and by form-ing a collar 34 on the screw which engages the outer face of the lug 32, the screw being extended and provided with a head 35 to permit it tobe conveniently manipulated.
At 36 a post is shown. This postextends through the table and it is vertically adjusted therein, it being secured by means of-a setscrew 37. Extending through the upper end of the post is a scribe 38. This is also Iadjustable, and is secured by meansy of a setserew 39. By longitudinally adjusting the scribe and by vertically adjusting the post, any position desired may bev obtained. The purpose of the scribe is to indicate the cut on the plaster cast. One end of the scribe is bent, as indicated at 40,?and this may bemoved into contact with the yocclusal surfaces of the teeth on the plaster cast, thus insuring a parallel cut on the under surfaceof the cast, shown in Fig. 3.
Fig. 3, it is only necessary to adjust the table B so that a substantially vertical cut is produced when ythe cast is moved against the face of the planer. The sides, the front and the rear :portion of the castarethen trimmed oihand whe-nthis has been accomplished fthe trimming opera-tion is completed, provided the base surface is substantially parallel with relation tothe teeth. On the other hand, if the basesurface is not parallel withrelation thereto, the` cast is turned on end and supported on the surface indicated at 46, and' the table is adjustedeo that it-assumesaright angular position to the face of the planer, this being'accomplished by releasing. the clamping screw 35 and by swinging the supporting arm 27 into place, `as shown fin Fig. 5. The plaster cast is then moved yagainst the 'tace of the planer and the base will thas vbe trimmed off at right angles to the end `of the cast.
