This invention relates to an improved brassiere which is characterized by a body encircling member including a waistband or belt, form fitting. breast pockets, novel elastic sustaining means and an appropriate arrangement of suspending shoulder straps.
The present application involves structural novelty which is predicated upon certain contrasting refinements and improve- 19 ments in they art as compared to my copending application Serial No. 301,077 filed by me under date of August 21, 1928.
Having in mind certain known marketed and patented garments of this general class, I aim to improve upon such garments by providing one which is individual in appearance and construction and such as to definitely and comfortably conform to the portions of ,the anatomy with which the features are intended to intimately cooperate, whereby to promote convenience in comfort, to' lend attractiveness to the shape of the wearer, and to otherwise fulfill the requirements of a product of this class in an efficient and satisfactory manner.
The principal improvement in this application is directed toward the provision of an elastic strap which is arranged in the back of the garment and cooperates with the tion causin an uplifting of the breast receiving poc iet.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawings.
In the drawlngs: Figure 1 1s a perspectlve view of a brassiere constructed in accordance with the I 2 wherein it will be observed that the body encircling means is characterized by a pair of form fitting cap shaped breast pockets 5 and 6 joined together in proper spaced companion parts to provide a yieldable acrelation through the medium of appropri ately shaped sections 7 and 8 of a fabric connecting web generally designated at 9.
v Fastenedto the web 9 as well as to the pockets is a waist encircling band or belt 10 which as seen in Figure 2 has its opposite ends buttoned or otherwise detachably connected together as at 11 in the back. EX- tending in opposite directions from the outer portion of the pockets 5 and'6/are tapered wing-like extensions 12 whose nar- 7 row ends are disposed inspaced-relation at the back and connected with shoulder straps 13 as indicated bythe stitching 14:. Likewise an elastic strap 15 is connected with shoulder straps and the'ends of the extensions 12 forming an unusual assembly for distributing the form fitting pressure properties of the'garment uniformly and properly.
The contraction of the elastic strap 15 has a tendency to draw the shoulder straps together and to draw downwardly on the narrowv end portions ofthe wing likeeX- tensions 12 exerting an over the shoulder pull on theshoulder strap to lift upwardly on the breast pocket 6., I
Incidentally, the pockets are formed with supplemental straps 16 and 17 joined to "gether in V-shaped form carrying a buckle or loop 18 in which the free end of the front portion of the shoulder strap is connect-ed in each instance. 1 7 7 In this way the shoulder. straps'can be adjusted for proper length and looseness of fit of the complete garment. The elastic property of the strap 15 and its connections with the extensions 12 and shoulder straps equalizes and maintains a constant yieldable uplifting action on the breast pockets 5 and 6. v I 1 The construction represented in Figure 4 is so far the sameas that already described and by referring to Figure 4.- it will be seen that the breast pockets 19 and 20 are joined together by a web 21 composed of companion sections 22 preferably connected together by hook and eye fasteners 23. Likewise the ends of the belt or waist band 24 are pref 7 erably connected at the front. Thus at the back the waist band may be seen at the top of Figure 4 to be solid.
The remaining details 120, 13a and 15a are the same as already described. I now invite attention to Figure 3 wherein it will be seen that the back of the garment is devised to vary the strain and stresses to insure a more comforting fit. For instance, the shoulder straps 25 are connected by stitching at their extreme lower ends to the V-shaped extremity 28 of the wing like extensions 12w, which extensions are connected by an elastic strap 26.
Here the waist band does not extend across the back. The waist band is formed with tapering extremities as at 27 which merge into the V-shaped extremities 28 of the aforesaid wing like extension. The extension 28 at the left is stitched as at 29 to the adjacent strap 25 and also to the adjacent end of the elastic strap 26 and a separable button connection is provided at 30 for securing the free ends of the strap 26 to the right shoulder strap and wing extension 28.
This facilitates application and removal of the garment. It will be noted that the contracting strain of the strap 26 is brought to act directly on the apex portion of the extenson 28. These extensions may be raised or lowered by adjusting the front ends of the shoulder straps by the buckle arrangement already described.
Thus, the wearer is reasonably assured of an appropriately fitting non-slipping and comforting brassiere.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A brassiere comprising a pair of breast pockets, a connecting web of fabric between the pockets and joining the same together in relatively spaced relation, a triangular shaped fabric extension secured at its base portion of the outer side of each pocket, shoulder straps respectively secured at one end to a pocket and at the other end to the apex of one of the said triangular extensions, a waist band co-extensive with the sald web and triangular extension, and secured adjacent the lower longitudinal edges thereof with its opposite ends tapered to conform with and merge into the taper of the said triangular extensions, and an elastic strap permanently connected to the apexof one triangular extension and having separable connection with the apex of the other triangular extension. 7
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
MARY A. BOLLVVINE.
