These and other objects and advantages of the invention will be fully set forth inthe following description made in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and in which Fig. l is a perspective view showing the halter;

Referring to the drawings, in Figs. l and 2 a halter is shown, the principal element of which comprises a continuous strand of linked chain 5. This chain at its central portion has a bight 5a formed therein, which constitutes the head band of the halter.

If the animal is being led in a normal manner the ring 9 will adjust .itself on the strands 5c sothat there will be no: discomfort to the animali. It will be apparent that the snap hooks 6 andthe snap hooks 8. can be engaged in the desired links of the. chain 5 to secure a good lit to the halter.- A leather or othercovering may be placed over the bightrpor'tion 5a if desired. The end portions 116 of the chain 11 beyond-the nose band 15 are embraced by a ring 17 which as shown in Fig. 3 is preferably disposed with oneside of the opening toward the nose band 15 and its other side in the opening between the strands 11b. vA double link 1nember'18 which comprises a pair of members swinging' about a central pivot 19 so as to be readily opened is engaged with'the portions 11b adjacent ring 17. Another similar double link 20 is sometimes used particularly if the halter is to be used on'a horse when'tied in a stall. The ends of portions 11b have the snap hooks 21 secured thereto which may be engaged at various links of the chain adjacent snap hooks 13.

v'In `operation the halter shown in Fig. 3 will be placed on the animal with the portion 12 across the top of the head behind the ears and the nose band 15 will extend across the top of the nose. rlhe ring 17 can be slid on portions 11b until the desired tightness is securedl on the Vnose of the animal and double link 18 can then be placed in position. When ring 17 is disposed as shown in Fig. 3 it does not slide as readily as when disposed as shown in Fig.v 2 and member 18 will prevent its sliding backward. The halter thus will remain inposition with a good lit around the nose of the animal. Ifmember 20 is used it will be placed in position so that they desired fit is secured around the neck of the animal and portions extending from member 2O to snap hooks 21 will form in effect a throat latch. lVith such a halter the animal Ais securely engaged and will not be able to slip the halter over its head.

From the above description it will be seen thatapplicant has provided a very simple and eiicient halter and one which can be ver easily and inexpensively made. The halter is readily applied to the animal and can be adjusted'to secure a good fit on the animals head. The halter also forms a good lead halter and one which can control the animal and tend to prevent the same from backing away. The device has been amply demonstrated in actual practice and found to be very successful and efficient.

It will, of course, be understood that various changes may be made in the form, details, proportions and arrangement of the parts .withoutv departing from the Ascope of applicants invention, which, generally -stated, consists in a device capable of carrying out the objects above set forth, in the novel parts and combinations of parts disclosed and defined in the appended claims.

What is claimed is 1. A halter comprising a strand of flexible said strand having a bight formed at its cetral portion comprising the head band of said halter, the portions adjacent and extending from said bight forming the sides of the halter, a noseband having detachable connections at its ends secured to said sides, the end portions of said strand beyond said nose band being crossed and .said hooks at the ends thereof being connected to said strand at the sides of Vsaidbight', and a ring embracing said crossed portions to which a leading member may be connected.

2. A halter comprising a single continuous strand of chainhaving snap hooks at its ends and having a bight formed at its central portionconstituting a head band, the portions adjacent and extendingfrorn said bight forming the sides of said halter, a nose band having snap hooks at its ends adapted to be variously connected alon said side portions in any of the links thereo the portions of said chain beyond said bight being crossed, the snap hooks at the ends thereof being connected respectively at the sides of said bight, and-y a ring embracing said crossed portions to which a lead or securing member may be connected.

3. A halter comprisinga single length of chain having a bight formed at its central portion, a nose band detachably connected to the portions extending from said bight, said chain having detachable connections at its ends connected adjacent the ends of said bight, and a ring embracing the portions of said chain between said nose band and said detachable connections.

4. A halter comprising a single length of chain having a bight formed at its central portion, a nose band having quickly detachable means at its ends for attachment in any of the links along the sides of said chain, said chain having detachable connections at its ends connected adjacent the ends of said Y bight, and a ring embracing the portions of said chain between said nose band and said detachable connections adapted to be connected to a hitch or lead member.
