WEANING-M UZZLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 31, 1917.
Application led January 3, 1917. Serial N o. 140,412.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, FRANK H. WELCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Altus, in the county of Jackson and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Weaning-Muzzles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements 1n weaning muzzles for use on Colts, calves and other young animals, and embodying a nose piece to lit on the muzzle of the animal, provided with pricking points and especially designed to cover the nose strap of a halter, the obj ect of the present improvement being to provide attaching means for connecting the ends of the muzzle nose piece to the links which connect the nose band cheek straps and chin strap of the halter and enable the muzzle to be readily attached to and removed from the halter as desired.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure l is a perspective view of a halter provided with a weaning muzzle constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 scale.
Fig. 3 scale.
The muzzle comprises a nose piece l which is made of sheet metal and is curved to assume a substantially semi-circular form and adapted to fit on the muzzle of the calf or other animal and to be arranged directly on the outer side of the nose strap A of a halter such as shown at B. The nose piece is provided with pricking points 2 which is a detail elevation on a larger is a detail plan also on a larger a central portion f zle is applied to the halter and the hooks may be readily engaged with the links of the halter at points on opposite sides of the nose band, the width of said links being greater than that of the nose band, and hence the hooks serve to detachably secure the muzzle in place.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:l
l. A muzzle for use in connection with a halter and comprising a curved body to bear on the outer side of the halter nose band, studs projecting upwardly from the curved body, and double hooksV pivotally connected to the ends of the said body and adaptedpto engage links of the halter at points on opposite sides of the nose band.
2. A weaning muzzle for use in connection with a halter and comprising a curved body to bear on the outer side of the halter nose band, studs projecting upwardly from the body, and attaching devices pivotally connected to the ends of thesaid body, adapted to engage the links of the halter and havini spaced arms to receive the ends of the halter nose band between them.
In testimony whereof I aliiX my signature.
FRANK H. WELCH.
