IMPROVEMENT IN SCHOOL-DESKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,233, dated July 25, 1876,- application filed September 25, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES J. HIGGINS, of Indianapolis, county of- Marion, State of Indiana, have made certain Improvements in the Construction ot'School-Desks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention consists in the arrangement of the upper cross-sections or desk-brackets, and the manner in which they are secured to the standards.
Figure 1 represents an end view of my improved wooden school-desk. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of the standard, formed of the legs and bracket or desk-support. Fig. 4. represents the hinge or seat-support.
Previous to my invention it has been customary to let the standards of a schootdesk extend from the floor to the top of the desk, and then to screw or secure an extra piece on the inside of each standard, near the top, to form brackets to support the desk and shelf.
By my improved combination standard and bracket I save the screws and extra length of the standards heretofore necessary.
