My invention relates to a novel construc- -tionofa displayqv'as'e, which is preferably composed of upperand lower SGClLlOIlSOI' members which may be duplicates or sub stantially identical, so that either member may serve as the base of the vase, the juxtaposed abutting ends of said sections being rigidly held in assembled position by a threaded ferrule or coupling so that the number of parts is reduced to a minimum. A display vase constructedvin accordance with my invention, wherein the top and bottom members are duplicates, possesses various advantages, since by making the parts separable and identical, only one standard set of molds need be employed, and by reason of the separable or knock-down construction, the parts can be packed in a minimum space during storage or transportation, so that a considerable saving is efiected in packing, freight, and breakage, and in addition, if one member of the vase is broken, the whole article is not destroyed as it can be readily replaced by a similar member.

To the above ends, my invention consists of a novel construction of a display vase, comprising upper and lower duplicate sections or members, whose juxtaposed ends abut and are exteriorly screw threaded and are held in assembledposition by a threaded ferrule or coupling, which may be plated or enamelled any desired color, thereby greatly enhancing the appearance of the vase.

It further consists of other novel features of construction and advantage, all as hereinafter pointed out in the specification and claims appended hereto.

For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at present preferred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.

By making the upper and lower members or sections 2 and 3 identical or in duplicate,

it willbe understood that either section can-- serve as the base or top of the vase, or vice versa. By the employment of the single ferrule 8 whose length is substanially the same as the distance between the shoulders 6 or the combined length of the threaded walls of the bosses5, it will be apparent that when the parts are assembled as seen in "Fig. 2, the abutting terminal walls 9 of each boss will be in contact when tho-ends 7 of the ferrule or coupling 8 are in Contact with the shoulders 6, whereby a veryrigid and'durable structure is produced.

It will be apparent that, if desired, the j 1.1xtaposed terminal walls of the bosses 5 may be annealed to the desired degree, or may be moulded from a batchof such'character or consistencythat there will be no chipping, splitting, or abrading of the juxtaposed Walls 9 when said walls are in contact and the device is assembled as seen'in Fig. 2.- By mak- 'ing the upperand lower members duplicates,

While I have shown my novel display vase as composed of duplicate upper and lower members or sections, it will be understood that if desired I may make the upper section in the form of a salver or bowl if desired. I am aware that in Patent No. 1,057,889 it has been heretofore proposed to unite a. pair of glass members by a connector having internal cushioning lips or members, but my device is difierentiated therefrom, since I dispense with such cushioning devices and by annealing or otherwise treating the abutting portions 5 of my novel display vase I produce a product wherein there is no liability of chipping or splitting the abutting surfaces 9. I am enabled to dispense with the internal or intermediate cushioning devices heretofore employed, and to none of the constructions of the prior art do I herein make my claim.

It will be apparent that by my novel constructiona display vase is produced which is symmetrical in appearance, and which can be stood on either end, and wherein either the top or bottom member can serve as the base or vice versa, and which can be readily disconnected for packing, storage, or trans 'portation' purposes, and can be assembled with equal facility and in case of breakage of either the top or bottom member, a duplicate part can be readily substituted at a minimum of expense.

I am aware that the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereof, and Itherefore desire the presentembodiment to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, reference I being had to the appended. claims rather than to the foregoing description to indicate the scope of the invention.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is r 1. The hereindescribed display vase, comprising duplicate upper and lower members provided with shoulders and having juxtaposed abutting portions exteriorly threaded and adapted to be in contact when assembled, and'a continuous, integral, threaded coupling member having its upper and lower terminals in contact with said shoulders, the distance between said shoulders being substantially the same as the length of said coupling member. The hereindescribed display vase, comprising duplicate upper and lower members provided with flaring extremities at one end, shoulders at the opposite end and having juxtaposed abutting portions in contact and exteriorly threaded, and a continuous,'integral, threaded coupling member having its upper and lower terminals in contact with said shoulders, the distance between said shoulders being substantially the same as the length of said coupling member, both of said members having chambers therein, and the juxtaposed abutting exteriorly threaded portions contained within said threaded couplingbeing annealed, so that there is no chip- I ping or splitting thereof when assembled.
