IMPROVEMENT IN TOY PISTOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,91ll, dated July 18, 1876'; application ijled May 10, 1876.
To all whom Iit may concern:
Be it known that we, HIERONYMUS MUEL- LER, FRIEDERICK A. KonsMEYER, and J oHN GROSS, residents ot' Decatur, in the county of Macon andvState ot' Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Toy Pistol and Burglar-Alarm, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. Our inventlon relates to an improvement in toy pistols and burglar-alarms combined; and consists in the construction ofthe handle so that it can be used as a handle for a pistol, or readily attached to the casing of a door for a burglar-alarm also, in the form 0i the hammer and operating-spring, so that no trigger is required; also, the arrangement for securing the screw in the handle, by which the pistol is secured to the door-casing; also, in the construction of the hammer by beveling it where it strikes against the cartridge.
Figure l is a plan of a toy pistol and burglar-alarm embodying our invention; and Fig. 2 is a plan with the plate removed, showing the interior of the pistol.-
'Ihe pistol is composed ot' two pieces, A, and the plate B. The handle at O is made square to abut against the casing D. A screw, E, is secured between the body A and plate B, and held from turning by the projection c. F is the barrel, and G the cartridge. H is the hammer. The bottom of the hammer is made angling, as shown at a and b. I is the spring, held in position by the lug c and post d.
When the hammer is raised the spring retains it cocked by the dat place b. Touching the hammer with the thumb throws it forward, and the spring'acts on the dat place a., forcing the hammer down and exploding the cartridge. The hammer is made lieveling on each side, as shown at h, (where it strikes against the metallic cartridge,) so that it can be readily pointed or sharpened, when worn.
A shell of the metal cartridge can be placed over the screw, as shown at s in Fig. l, to keep the screw from hurting the hand, or the plate B removed and the screw taken ont.
When used as a burglar-alarm the attachment is made to the casing D, as shown in Fig. 2, and the hammer set as shown in that tgure. Opening the door J, it strikes against the hammer, throwing it forward and exploding the cartridge.
We claim as our inventionl. A toy pistol and burglar-alarm, when constructed with the body A, plate B, hammer'H, spring I, screw E, and projection e, and combined as shown and described.
