Patented Ju1y18',`18'76.
WITNESSES H- PSTERS. MWLIYHOGRAPNER, WASNMGTON. E C.
UNITED STATES PATENT QEEICE HENRY A. GUIGNON, OF GORRY, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPRovE'MENT |N COMBINED LIQUID-PUMPS AND FUNNELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,911, dated July 18, 1876; application tiled J une 6, 1876. l
v a specitication: Y
The accompanying drawing represents a Vertical central section of my improved liquidpump and funnel combined.
The invention has reference to an improved pump and funnel, by which the liquids may readily be drawn out ot' the barrel and the waste liquid returned back to the same; and the invention consists ot' a pump passing through a bung into the barrel, the bung being recessed and connected by a pipe with a funnel and grate for conveying the waste liquid back into the barrel.
In the drawing, A represents a pump of' suitable length,- wit-h a valve-piston, B, operated by a handle, B', and with a discharging spout, C. The lower end of pump A is prof vided with spurs` a, by which the pump-barrel rests on the bottom part of the barrel, to prevent the turning of the pump during the working of the piston. The pump A slides in a perforated wooden bung, F, which is surrounded by a tin case, to prevent the jamming or splitting of the bung when being driven rmly into the barrel. The bung F has a recess, b, that connects by an elbow-pipe, E, with a funnel, D, which carries a grate, D1,
for supporting the measuring-vessels placed thereon. A ring-shaped guide, d, of the funnel serves, in connection with the bung, to adjust the pump to different sizes otl barrels, and forms a steady support for the same. A central pipe, D2, ot the funnel D, with openings e near the bottom, extends below the funnel l), and forms a loose joint with the bung-connecting` pipe E, being also extended in upward direction to support the center part of grate D1. The pump, being attached to thc side ot' funnel, may be readily worked for tilling the measure and other vessels in taking samples, and for other purposes, while the liquid not required is readily returned to the barrel by means ot' the funnel and recessed bung.
The pump may be readily detached from the bung when desired to be used without the funnel for pumping the contents of one barrel into another, and for other purposes.
Having thus described my invent ion, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patvent- The funnel connected with a recessed bung by au elbow-pipe, E, and with pump by a band, d, to enable it to be supported, as shown and described.
