The present invention relates to improvements in copy sheet holders and more particularly to holders of this character adapted for attachment to the trame of a typewriter t `for disposing a copy sheet in a position to be conveniently read by the typist.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a copy holder embodying an arrangement whereby the holder may be readily applied to either side of the typewriter in accordance with the typists desire.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved copy sheet holder embodying a corner clamp which is readily attachable to either side of the. typewriter frame in a manner `tor adjustably supporting a rest at an inclined position so as to not interfere with movement of the typewriter carriage.
A further object of the invention is to provide a copy sheet holder embodying an arrangement whereby the rest is readily adjustable laterally of the typewriter and is readily detachable from its supporting bracket and thus allowing for the supporting bracket to remain connected with the typewriter frame.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved copy sheet holder embodying an angle bracket or clamp adapted for attachment to the typewriter frame and provided with angularly related socket members adapted to be disposed in position at the front edge of the typewriter 'frame for properly receiving a rest supporting bar when the bracket is disposedat either side of the typewriter.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved copy sheet holder w which may be constructed entirely from sheet metal stampings and thus allowing for economical manufacture of tlieholder and also result in the provision of a holder which will be extremely light in weight.
Other objects and advantages ofthe inven` tion will be apparent during the course of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming `a part of this specification and in which drawing:

Referring to the drawing in detail, and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts thruout the several views, the letter Amay designate a conventional form of typewriter and B the im- 9G, proved copy `sheet holder for detachable connection with the frame of the typewriter A.
The typewriter A and which is of conventional construction embodies aframe 5 including a front rail 6 and side rails 7 which extend rearwardly at a right angle from the front rail 6 at opposite ends of the keyboard 8. 4Supported at an elevation above and behind the keyboard 8 is a movable carriage 9 p which in its path of movement extends be im? bracket or clamp 10, andwliichispreferably formed from a suitable gauge of sheet metal, the same is in the form of an angle bracket providing right angularly disposed side plate portions 12 and 14 each fof which isprovid'ed at its upper edge with an inwardly extending ho'o'k shape-d portion providing a dependflange 15 extending in spacedparallel relation to the respective side plate portions 12 and 14. This angle bracket 10 is intended to be hooked over the top edges of the typewriter frame at 'thecornerintersections ofV therails 6 and 7 as clearly illustrated, and it will readily be seen that the bracket Ymay be disposed at either end of the front rail 6 in accordance with 'that side of the typewriter to which it isrdesired to support the copy restk 11. As will be'observed in Figure 6, the side plates 12 and 14 are of a height .substanti'ally 'equal to the height ofthe rails 6 and 7 lwhile thedepending yflanges 15 extend .for a substantial 'distance 'downwardly at .the inner side of the rails so that the lianges 15 serve to retain the bracket in 'position when hooked over the rails.
Secured to each of the side plate portions 12 Y and 14 are socket members 16, and ywhich socket members are each of identical construction so that either may serve to receive a hori- `z 'o'ntally disposed supporting bar or arm 17 which adjustably carriesat its outer end the copy rest or support 11. The socket members 1G are of one piece construction and may be formedfrom metal strips of a suitable thickness and width to provide a suitable bearing surface for the bar 17. Provided in the portion 21 of each of the socket members 16 is a screw threaded opening` or aperture 23 for threaded reception of a thumb screw 24 which is intended to be turned into binding engagement with the bar -17 for adjustably and removably connecting thebar to either of the socket members 16. Provided also in each of the side plates 12 and f1.4 to one side of their respective socket members, is a threaded aperture 25 of a diameter .for threaded reception of one of the thumb screws 24. rlhus it will be seen that the thumb screws 24ga`re interchangeable and be threaded into either ofthe threaded apertures 23 or 25. Referring'particularly to Figure 7 and wherein the angle bracket has been shown applied to the left hand end ofthe front rail 6 of the typewriter frame it will be seen that the bar 17 is positioned in the socket member carried by the side plate 12 and is held in position by threading one'of the thumb screws 24 thru. the socket portion 21. It will further. be observed that the thumb screw has been removed from the socketmember Vof the side .plate 14 and has been positioned in the threaded opening 25 of the side plate 14and turned intobinding engagement with the side rail 7 so that this set screw acts ,as means for .coupling the angle bracket to the typewriter frame. By now observing Figure 2 itwill be seen that the only requirement Anecessary for attachment'of the angle bracket to the right hand endof the rail 6 is to reverse theposition of the` thumb lscrews so that one of the thumb screws is positioned in the threaded opening ,y
of the side plate 12 and the companion thumb screw is threaded into the opening 23 ofthe socket, member carriedby the Aside platel14'. .In Figure i9 thefangle bracket 10 has merely been. shown with a. rounded corner to allow for attachment ofthe bracket to typewriter frames wherein a rounded corner is formed at the junctureof the front rail 6 with the rearwardly extending side rails 7. and yet providing a surface for properly receiving a sheet of paper or a note book. The lower edge oi the bottom rail 31 is extended outwardly and upwardly at the lace side of the ruil `l'or providing a charmed 35 extending thruout the bottom edge of the rest. The upwardly turned flange 36 forming the channel proddes means for receiving the lower odge of the copy sheet when positioned upon the l'ace side of the support. Extending thruout the height oi each of the side rails 32 is a reinforcing strip 37, and which strips as will be observed overlie the face side of the rails and have their edges turned inwardly at the rear side of the rails as clearly illustrated in Figure Ll. These reinforcing strips will permit of the copy rest being formed vfrom sheet metal without likelihood of the rest bending when serving to support a notebook.
Secured to the rear side of the rest 11 adjacent each end et the bottom rail 31, is a pair of brackets 3S providing rectangular' shaped guide openings for receiving the rectangular shaped supporting bar 17. Threaded thru each ot the brackets 38 is a suitable thumb screw 39 which are intended when tightened,
l to prevent movement of the copy rest longitudinally along the supporting bar. As will be observed, the supporting bar 17 lies flat against the rear face of the bottom rail 31 and thus the flat copy rest 11 is disposed at an angle corresponding to the angle of the openings 22 provided in the socket members 16. It will also be observed that by so supporting the rest 11 by its lower edge so that the lower edge ot the rest extends in substantially a like horizontal plane as does the front rail 6 of the typewriter frame, that such will allow for the rest to be of considerable size and yet have its upper edge disposed below the typewriter carriage 9. It will readily be seen how the copy rest can be adjusted toward and away from` the side rails 7 of the typewriter frame upon operating the thumb screws 39 so as to allow the copy rest to be slid longitudinally along the supporting bar 17.
Secured at one end to the face side of ,one oi the strengthening or reinforcing strips 37 and extending longitudinally thereof, is a suitable spring wire 4G which may be employed for retaining the copy sheet upon the rest 11.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that a novel and improved type of copy sheet holder has been provided which is ot extremely simple and light construction, and one embodying an angle bracket or clamp of such construction as to permit of the bracket to be readily applied to either side et the typewriter so that the copy rest may be supported in a like manner at either side of the typewriter. It will also be apparent that a novel arrangement has been provided in connection with the angle bracketwhereby thethumb screw for retaining the `supporting arm 17 in position Awhen the an opposite side of the typewriter frame.
Changes in detail may be made tothe specitic form of the invention hereinshown and described, without departing fromthe spirit of the Vinvention or the scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. A copy holder comprising a bracket provided with angularly disposed side plates, similarly formed socket members carried by each side plate, and a supporting arm adapted to be removably connected with either of said socket members to be supported in a horizontal position thereby.
2. A copy holder attachment for typewriters comprising an angle bracketadapted for connection with the typewriter frame at either sidethereof, similarly formed socket members carried by the angular sides of the bracket, and a supporting arm adapted for detachable connection with either of the socket members.
3. In a copy holder attachment for typewriters, a bracket embodying angularly disposed side plates having hook shaped upper ends for engaging over the upper edges of the angularly extending rails of the typewriter frame, similarly formed socket members carried by each side plate of the bracket and having openings extending in angular relation to the side plates, a supporting arm capable of insertion into the openin in either of the socket members, and means or retaining the arm in position within the socket members.
4. In a copy holder attachment for type Writers comprising a frame embodying a front `rail and rearwardly extending side rails, an anfrle bracket for attachment to either end ot the front rail embodying side plates having hook shaped upper ends for engaging over the upper edges of the rails at the meeting corners thereof, said plates each being provided with a screw threaded aperture, similarly formed socket members carried by each side plate and providing openings each having a screw threaded aperture extending thereinto of a like dimension as that of the apertures'in the side plates, a
supporting arm insertable into the opening of either of the socket members, and a thumb screw associated with each of the side plates and interchangeable from the threaded aperture in the socket members to the threaded aperture in the side plate whereby the thumb screws act in different capacities when the angle bracket is disposed at opposite ends of the frontrail of the typewriter frame.
