A. P. GEIMER CABINET Filed Dec. .3, 1927 @uw /z f KMC/fer@ Patented Mar. 31, 1931 UNITEDA STATES PATENT OFFICE ANTHONY I. GEIMER. OF TWO RIVERS, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR TO HAMILTON MANU- FACTURING CO., OF TWO RIVERS, WISCONSIN, ACORPORATIONOF `WISCONSINY CABINET Application led December 3, 1927. Serial No. 237,488.
My invention relates to cabinets having drawers and resides in the provision of an improved construction of runways or the provision of an improved construction of elements in conjunction with runways whereby the drawers are held from vertical displacement from the runways within the normal travel of the drawers.
My invention is of particular use in connection with cabinets having runways adapted to support printers galleys, the galleys being considered as one form of drawer with which the cabinet is supplied.
In accordance with my invention, metallic strips are placed substantially parallel to and above the runways, these strips being each pressed laterally and inwardly into inwardly projecting spaced apart formations which overhang the runways and lateral portions of the drawers which enter between the runways and said inwardly projecting formations. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the runways are also of strip material and are integrally formed with the aforesaid strip members, each runway and the corresponding strip above it being preferably a length ofy angle iron.
The invention will be more fully explained in connection with the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a front view of a cabinet as it is preferably constructed in accordance with my invention, parts being broken away; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the structure shown in Fig. l; Fig. 3 is a detailed cross sectional view illustrating the interrelation of a drawer and the structure of my invention; Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view; and Fig.` 5 is a perspective view illustrating the interrelation of a drawer and the structure of my invention.
The cabinet l illustrated is preferably formed of sheet metal, though the invention is not to be thus limited. The drawers 2 that are illustrated within the cabinet are in the nature of galleys, though the invention is not to be thus restricted. Each galley shown has a floor 8 of sheet metal which is folded upon itself lengthwise of the galley to constitute lateral projecting portions 4l The metal of which the parts 3 and 4 are made is then continued upwardly to forni the galley sides 5, t
the metal being finally downwardly continued as indicated at 6 to strengthen the structure. The metal is preferably folded at its rear end to form the back wall 7 this back wall being folded forwardly as indi-` cated at 8. The parts 5 and 8 may be spot welded if desired.
The runways 9 are desirably made of strip metal. These runways are preferably provided with integral continuations 10 which are also in the form of strip metal portions. l
The two formations 9 and 10 are preferably made of angle iron, the runways 9 being horizontal and the strips 10 rising from the runways at the outer longitudinal edges of the runways where the parts 9 `and 10 are in integral connection. Any suitable means may be provided for assembling the runways with the opposite sid-e walls of the cabinet.
`I have illustrated rivets 11 which may be passed through the parts l() and theadjacent wall portions of the cabinet, as illustrated most clearly in Fig. 4. The continuations 10 of the portions 9 are placed a distance apart, laterally of the cabinet, which will permit the galleys or drawers to slide freely upon `the runways. VIn order that the galleys or drawers may notbe vertically displaced or unduly lifted from the runways, the strip portions l() are depressed and pressed lateral ly into upright U-shaped inwardly projecting formations l2 which overhang the runways and are spaced apart therefrom, the laterally projecting portions 4 of the drawer entering between the runways 9 and saidU- shaped formations 12.
A number of upright U-shaped formations l2 are provided upon each strip metal portion so that when the drawer or galley is only partially removed, it may be left in its partially removed state without unduly tilting.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A cabinet having a drawerand two runways respectively carried by opposite side walls of the cabinet, said runways-having integral continuations rising therefrom at their outer longitudinal edges and each of which continuations includes inwardly di rected spaced apart formations which overhang the related runway and are spaced apart therefrom, with the formation adjacent the drawer receiving face of the cabinet spaced inwardly of the corresponding end of its related runway, said drawer having lateral portions between the runways and said formations.
In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name.
' ANTHONY P. GEIMER.
