This invention relates to a ventilating system for buildings and aims to provide a novel system for ventilating and: heating breeders to insure the health of the chicks housed in the brooders.
An important object of the invention is to provide means whereby fresh air may be taken into a building and foul air simultaneously exhausted therefrom, at intervals.
A still further object of the invention is .to provide a structure which when used in connection with breeders, will insure against the chicks being subjected to a draft of air to impair the health of the chicks.
With the foregoing and other objects, in
view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made with in the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

cate with the pipe 8, as clearly shown by Figure l of the drawings.
As shown, these pipes 11 are secured to the wall of the brooder and extend along the roof section 6, from where they extend upwardly through the opening 7 as at 12, the discharge ends of the pipes 11 beingfiush with the edge of the opening 7 The reference character 13 designates the hover which is frusto-conical in formation, and is supported by means of the pipe 14 which is connected with the hover and which extends to a point so that the discharge end thereof communicates with the atmosphere through the opening 7.
Openings 15 are formed in the hover, which openings are covered by the circular member 16 which is spaced from the hover defining a circular passageway to allow air passing through the openings 15 to pass upwardly {and into the passageways 17 formed by the members 18 that are positioned over the hover is spacedrelation therewith. Communicating with the members 17 is a circular member 19 defining a passageway at the upper ends of the members 18, the last mentioned passageway being in communication with the atmosphere, through the pipe 14, with the result that foul air directed under the hover may escape. Fresh air is taken into the hover through the pipe 20 that has one end communicating with the atmosphere, the opposite end thereof extending upwardly through the bottom of thehover where it connects with the air chamber 21 disposed directly under the hover and adjacent to the heater which is indicated at 22, so that air in the chamber 21 may be heated. Extending through the hover and connected with the heating chamber 21 is a pipe'23, the upper end of-th'e pipe being providedwith a cap 24 to direct heat downwardly.
The heater 22 may be of any desired type to efficiently heat the interior of the brooder. A. pipe 25 extends through the opening 7 and communicates with the burner 22 to carry oif thecobnoxious gases from the burner.
Located in each'of the pipes 11 and 23, and disposed adjacent to the discharge end thereof, is a-swinging valve 26 which is supplied with an arm 27 to which the operating chains 28 are connected, the chains being also connected with the rod 29 that carries a thermostat wafer 30 at its lower end, the wafer being secured to the casing of the heater 22. The action of the heat on the thermostat will cause the members 26 to be operated to open the pipes and allow air to pass therethrough. The opening 7 is covered by the cap 31 which is disposed in spaced relation with the roof of the hover to permit air to pass thereunder, but exclude foreign matter therefrom.
In the form of the invention as shown by Sheet 2 of the drawings, the brooder is indicated by the reference character 5 and is supplied with a circular pipe 8 supported therein, the pipe having a plurality of'openings to permit air from the interior of the brooder to enter the pipe '8. Pipes 11 communicate with the pipe 8 and extend upwardly having their upper ends extended laterally through the wall of the brooder to communicate with the atmosphere and allow air to pass therefrom.
In this form of the invention the hover which is indicated at 13 is supplied with openings over which the members 1% are positioned, which members define passageways for the air passing through the openings in the hover, there being supplied a pipe 15 communicating with the passageways to carry off the foul air that otherwise collects under the hover.
The fresh air inlet pipe is indicated by the reference character 16 and extends through the wall of the hover, the discharge endthereof being supplied with a valve 17. Valves 17 are also provided in the pipes 11, and as shown these valves are connected with chains 18, which extend downwardly and connect with the rod 19 that supports the wafer 20, to which the wafer 20' is connected, the wafer being supported on the casing of the heater 21. These valves are operated by the action of the thermostat wafer 20 which causes a movement of the rod and chain to move the valves and allow air to enter through the pipe 16, and allow air to exhaust through the pipes 11.
Supported under the hover 13 is a heater 21 that has a pipe. 22 connected therewith and which extends through the top of the hover to permit the products of combustion to pass outwardly therethorugh.
