This invention relates to floor plates and has special reference to a floor plate for attaching hose to the floor of a vertically moving car such as an elevator car, an airship or 6 the like so that a hose line may be carried up to a suitable floor or other point in or neara building in order that water may be played upon a fire in such building.
One important object of the invention is to '1 provide a novel means for attaching and carrying hose to difierent points vertically in or near a building.
A second important object of the invention is to provide a novel form of floor plate capable of being set in a floor of an elevator or the likeand to which a line of hose may be secured for lifting the same to any desired 7 e Figure 8;

V A. third object of the invention is to provide an improved form of floor plate of this character having a door or cover and a hose clamp automatically connected so that as the hose is clamped the door will be opened. A fourth important object of the invention is to provide an improved floor plate adapted for connecting either water or chemical hose. A fifth important object of the invention is to provide an improved latching means for use in connection with such a floor plate.
A sixth important object of the invention is to provide an improved device of this kind having novel means for securing -a telephone or other cable so that it may be carried up an elevator shaft.
With the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention several views, and:

In carrying outthis invention the floor of the elevator 10 or airship 11 is provided with a suitable opening 12 wherein is seated the In the form shown in Figures 3 to 11 there is provided a frame or body 13 adapted to seat in the opening 12 and in this frame or body is an opening 14 having channels 15 in its side walls and provided at one end with a semicircular fixed clamp 16, the upper surface of the clamp and portion of the frame surrounding the opening14 being provided with a rabbet 17 so that a door 18 may lie flush with the upper surface of the frame. The door is hinged at one. end to the frame by hinges 19 and at the other end the frame is provided with a small cut away portion or recess 20 so that tool or the finger may be inserted to lift the door 18. Within the rectangular part of the opening 14 is mounted a movable jaw or clamp 21 having ribs (not shown) which fit in the channels 15. This clamp may either be moved to the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 4 or to the position shown in full lines, and when in the ice position shown in dotted lines it cooperates with the jaw 16 to grip around a hose below the usual connection at an end of a hose length. The member 21 may either be held in its gripping position by a pin 23 inserted in a suitable opening 24 formed in the frame 13 or other means may be used for the same purpose. Preferably, this means may take the form shown in Figures 5 and 6. As seen from those figures, on the under side of the frame 13 there is provided a pivot 25 whereon is mounted a crank arm 26 having an operating handle 27. This handle can swing around through 180 degrees from the position shown in Figure 6 to a diametrically opposite position, notches 28 being provided in the crank arm for the reception of a stop pawl or latch 29 which not only limits the swinging movement of the arm but holds it releasably in either of the two positions. A link 30 is pivotally connected to the outer end of the arm 26 and to the jaw 21 as by a screw 31. Thus when the arm"26"is swung in one direction the aw 21 will be closed against the jaw 16 as shown in Figures 5 and 6 while, when the arm is swung in the opposite direction it will be moved away from said jaw. In order to'cause the door to automatically open upon the jaw 21 being moved forwardly there is attached to this jaw adjacent the hinge end an arm 32 which projects downwardlyand away from the door and has its free end connected by a link 38 to a pivot 34 fixed on the under side of the jaw 21. Thus when the jaw 21 is moved to closed position, it will pull on the arm 82 and lift the door 18 as shown in Figure 6.
At the opposite end the frame 13 is pro vided with an opening 37 at one side of which is a clamping jaw 38 having a semi-circular opening similar to the jaw 16 but smaller to accommodate small hose such as is used with chemical engines. The end walls of the opening 37 are grooved as at 39 and receive the tongues 40 of a sliding clamping jaw 41 coacting with the jaw 38. ()n the under side of the edge portion of the jaw 41 is secured a channel shaped housing 42 having its open side closed by a plate 43 and its endsclosed by end pieces 44 suitably dovetailed into the web of the channel and there secured. Adjacent these end pieces slots 45 are formed so that handles 46 may pass therethrough. The end pieces 44 have square holes formed therethrough and through these holes slide the locking pawls or dogs 47, the handles 46 being fixed thereto to operate the pawls. These pawls have their ends bifurcated to engage the teeth of racks 48 fixed beneath the frame 13. A corrugated leaf spring 49 is secured within the housing 42 at its middle point by a pin or rivet 50 and bears at its ends against the pawls or dogs 47 to hold them normally in engagement with the racks.
In one part of the clamping jaw 16 is a notch or opening 51 which tapers inwardly and downwardly and has its side walls serrated or roughened with file-like teeth so as to grasp a telephoneor other cable and carry it up the shaft.
The hose ma either be permanently connected or may e connected just at the time it is desired to use it. In any case a suitable length of hose as shown at 56 provided with a nozzle 57 is attached to the end of the hose line 58 carried by the floor plate and ma be led out of the elevator or directed there rom against the burning part of a building, the same being true when the hose is carried up by an aircraft capable of remainingstationary in the air.
Therehas thus been provided a simple and efficient device of this kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material spirit thereof. It is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact form.

A floor plate for the purpose described comprising a frame carrying a fixed jaw, a. movable jaw slidable in the frame to move into and out of hose clamping position in relation to the fixed jaw, means to hold the movable jaw releasabl in hose clamping position, a door adapte to be seated flush in said floor plate and hinged thereto, said door covering the said jaws, and means operativelyconnecting the door and movable jaw to open the door as said movable jaw is moved to hose gripping position.
4. A floor plate for the purpose described comprising a frame carrying a fixed jaw, amovable jaw slidable in the frame to move into and out of hose clamping position in relation to the fixed aw, a crank arm ivoted on said frame, a link connect-ing sai crank arm and movable jaw, and a latch carried by the frame and holding the crank arm releasably at both limits of its movement in moving the movable jaw toward and from the fixed jaw.
5. A floor plate for the purpose described comprising a frame carrying a fixed-jaw, a movable jaw slidable in the frame to move into and out of hose clamping position in relation to the fixed jaw, a crank arm pivoted on said frame, a link connecting said crank arm and movable jaw, a latch carried by the frame and holding the crank arm releasably at both limits of its movement in moving the movable jaw toward and from the fixed jaw,
and a door adapted to be seated flush in saidv floor plate and hinged thereto, said door covering the said jaws.

A floor plate for "the purpose described comprising a frame carrying a fixed jaw, a movable jaw slidable in the frame to move into and out of hose clamping position in relation to the fixed jaw, a crank arm pivoted on said frame, a link connecting said crank arm and movable jaw, a latch carried by the frame and holding the crank arm releasably at both limits of its movement in moving the movable aw toward and from the fixed jaw, a door adapted to be seated flush in said floor plate and hinged thereto, said door covering the said aws, and means operative ly connecting the door and movable jaw to open the door as said movable jaw is moved to hose gripping position.
7. A floor plate for the purpose described comprising a frame carrying a plurality of fixed jaws of different sizes, coacting movable jaws slidable in said frame into and out of hose clamping relation with the fixed jaws, and means to hold the movable jaws selectively in hose clamping positions.

A floor plate for the purpose described comprising a frame carrying a plurality of fixed jaws of different sizes, coacting movahle jaws slidable in said frame into and out of hose clamping relation with the fixed jaws, means to hold the movable jaws selectively in hose clamping positions, and a cover plate hinged to said fllgjll and adapted to seat flush therein to cover said jaws.
9. A floor plate for the purpose described comprising a frame carrying a fixed jaw, a movable jaw slidable in the frame to move into and out of hose clamping position in relation to the fixed jaw, and means to hold the movable jaw releasably in hose clamping position, said fixed jaw having a tapered and serrated notch to carry a wire cable.
