My invention relates to twin wash tubs. It pertains more particularly to a new and useful structure of the middle partition wall, and a tubular member that receives the upper edges of the Walls to constitute a stiiemng frame for the top of the tub and to provide a neat and attractive finish.

The term twin tubs is used to designate a pair of wash tubs formed of sheet metal, such as copper or galvanized iron, arranged side by side and close together, with two of their upright walls conjoined. Suitable supporting legs are removably secured to the tubs by means of sheet metal sockets, and a removable cover is provided, capable of being used as a table top.

The objects of my improvement are to provide on the middle partition of the tub a bar or clip to which a clothes wringer may be clamped for wringing and rinsing.

Another object is to so construct the clip 4 that it can be made of light sheet metal, yet possess the requisite thickness, strength and stiffness to withstand the gripping force of the wringer clamp screw without buckling.

A further object is to provide a clip andv tubular frame, both capable of being assembled in the tub easily and quickly in interlocking arrangement, requiring no rivets or other fastening devices for the clip. A still further object is to provide a tubular rim frame and a clip arranged with relation to each other so that the tub cover will be supported across its middle and can be used as a table top, either lat, or preferably Vdished or depressed, to present a raised outer r1m.

With the foregoing and certain other objects in' view, which will appear later in the specification, my invention comprises the devices described and claimed and the equivalents thereof.

The claimed invention has to do with thebar or clip 6 and tubular frame 7, the construction an'd Inode of operation of which, for attaining the stated objects, will now be described.

The clip 6 is of substantially U-shaped cross section and is placed astride the upper edges of the conjoined upright walls 1a 2a.

The clip extends across the full width of the tubs and its flanges overlap their upper portions. The sides of the clip are formed with ribs that preferably extend lengthwise and alternate with grooves, thus formin a series of longitudinally reinforced strips 1b, which, although preferablyl made of sheet metal are of adequate strength to support a clothes wringer 8, and to withstand the squeezing action of the wringer clamping screw 9. y As shown in Fig. 7 the frame 7, preferably of tubular cross section and of rectangular shape, has a slot that receives the four u per marginal edges 10 of the outer walls o the tubs. The frame is provided with a flange 7 a that overlaps the said edges and is fastened thereto; Frame 7 serves as a stiiener for each wall and also holds them in position preventing the tubs from racking. The downwardly rojecting iianges 7a provide a neat nishing hand that is easily secured to the tub rims by welding or otherwise. The marginal ed es 10 of the walls, entering the slots of the tu ular frame, abut against the opposite face of the tube, as shown at 11 in Fig. 7, providing an exceedingly strong and rigid beaded rim construction. The ends of clip 6 extend so as to project underneath the tubular frame 7.

By this arrangement the part of the tubular frame that overhangs the inner face of the wall of the tub is made to serve as a keeper to prevent removal of the clip 6, rendering' unnecessary the use of rivets or other fastening means that otherwise would be required to keep the clip in place on the conjoined walls 1a, 2a of the tubs. The ends of the clip may be cut away as shown at 12in Fig. 7 or they may be projected underneath the bead of the frame without being cut away, as at 13, in Fig. 5.

The removable cover 5 is fiat topped so as to serve as a table. It may be fianged downwardly at its marginal edge to engage the outside edge of the tubular frame 7, as shown in Fig. 1, or, if desired, it may also be sunk or depressed, as shown at 5b i'n Fig. 5. In either case, however, the top edge of the clip serves as a support for the cover.

By the means above described I have provided a neat finish for the top edges of the tub including the crosswise partition, the marginal edges of the tub are stiened and strengthened, the tubs are prevented from racking, and a clip serving as a wringer-bar is provided that also supports the middle of the cover and is itself held in place by the bead around the marginal edges of the tubs.

To assembly the device it is only necessary to drop the clip 6 astride the walls la, 2a, to place the rectangular frame 7 in position as shown, and then fasten the flanges 7 a to the tub margins.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. Tubs arranged side by side with two upright walls conjoined, a clip of substantial U-shaped section astride and extending from end to end of the upper edges of said conjoined walls, a slotted tubular frame receiving the upper marginal edges of the outer walls of the tubs, the ends of said clip received beneath the inwardly projecting tubuoverla in the u r mar inal ortions of the ouiei)` wlls of t Ietubs angd fastrdned thereto, for the purposes set forth.

4. A structure as set forth in claim 1 wherein the said clip is formed with raised ribs on the sides thereof, for the purposes set forth.

5. Tubs arranged side by side with two upright walls conjoined, a clip formed of a single piece of sheet metal to resent two flanges extending lengthwise o the upper edges of said conjoined walls, enveloping the same and overlapping the upper portions thereof, said flanges adapted to be engaged by the clamping members of a wringer mounted on said clip, and thereby to be clamped to said upper portions of the tubs, and inwardly projecting marginal edges formed on the tub and arranged to hold the clip against displacement.

6. A structure as set forth in claim 5, wherein the clip is formed with raised ribs on the sides thereof, said ribs being positioned for engagement by the said clamping members of a wringer, for the purposes set forth.
