DIE-STOCK.
Nn.179,-758. Patented J'u1y11,1876.
N. PETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAFHEFL WASHINGTON- D G,
UNITED STATES PATENT CHARLES E. BILLINGS, OF HARTFORD, AND JOHN B. PRICE, OF THOMPSONVILLE, CONNECTICUT.
'IMP-ROVEMENT lN DIE-STOCKS.
Specification formingpart of Letters Patent No. 179,758, dated July 11, 1876; application filed March 2, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES E. BILL- INGS, of Hartford, and JOHN B. PRICE, of Thompsonville, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Die-Stocks; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, whereby a person skilled in the art can make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Like letters in the figures indicate the same arts.
The object of our invention is to provide a diestock in which the dies are securely held when in use, and which permits of their being.
rapidly and easily removed or replaced when required.
Our invention consists in applying hinged levers to recesses in the die-stock in such a manner that they are operated by the pressure of the ordinary set-screw upon the dies, and loclr into slots in the sides of the dies to hold them firmly in the stock.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a top view of our improved die-stock, with the top surface removed, showing the interior w th the parts arranged as in use. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the dies removed. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the line .70 y, Fig. 1. Fig. at is a view of one of the parts of the die, showing the slots in its sides.
The die-stock A has in its center a rectangular opening, B, in the sides of which there is a groove, 0. D D are the two parts of a screw-cutting die, fitting into the opening B, and provided with slots 0 c in their sides. E E are locking-levers, fitting in the groove 0 and the slots 0, and are hinged on the pins 6. e. F-is a pin moving in a hole in the side of the die-stock, and is provided with a circular or wedge-shaped head for pressing upon the shorter arms of the levers E E. G is a setscrew for holding the dies in place when in use.
To place the dies in the die-stock, the setscrew G is loosened, and the pin F pressed in against the levers E E, causing their longer arms to move back into the groove C. The dies are then placed in the opening B in the proper position, and pressed against the shorter arms of the levers E E, forcing the longer ones into the slots 0 in the sides of the dies by means of the set-screw G, which holds the dies firmly in place.
To remove the dies, the screw G is loosened and the'pin F pressed in, forcing the arms of the levers out of the slots 0, and allowing the dies to be easily taken out.
What we claim as our invention is- 1. The hinged levers E E, arranged in a groove in the die-stock, for holding and releasing the dies, substantially in the manner herein described.
2. The hinged levers E E, in combination with the screw G, for securing the dies in the stock, substantially as herein described.
3. The pin F, in combination with the levers E E, for releasing the dies, substantially as herein described.
