This invention relates to a portable night light and has for an object to provide a light of this character which may be placed in any desirablepo'sition, such as on a table, under a table, a bed or other piece of furniture to give suflicie ntillumination so that objects on thefioor or lower part of the room are visible and a person; will not stumbleover them, but Withoutbrightly illuminating the entire 1 room. , Itis also an object ofthe invention to provide an improved portable control means for the light. h h

It is a still further object of the invention to provide an improved construction of a light which is easily portable, is simple and attractive, and in which there is a guard and reflector for the lamp to protect the lamp against injury should some one step on it.
