Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
DANIEL FOBES, OF CAMBRIDGE, kMASSAGEUSF/ITS.
IMPROVEMENT IN ,HA!RCRIMPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,693, dated July 11, 1876; application led April 13, 1876.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, DANIEL FoBEs, of Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex and State of lVIa-ssachusetts, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Hair-Crimpers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters ot' reference marked thereon.
The nature ofiny invention is fully described below.
'In the accompanying illustration, Figure 1 is a view of my haincrimper in use. Fig. 2 is A aview ot' the same when not in use. Fig. 3
is a sectional view of the knob, spring, and clasp.
Similar' letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
a represents a fork, made somewhat like a common hairpin, but bent in at a', and bent over at about a right angle at a. Attached to the portion a. ot' the fork is a spiral spring, b. Placed in the opposite end otthe spring b is the knob c, made long enough to extend a short distance-into said spring. A clasp, d, made of the proper size and shape to embrace the two prongs ot' the fork a, is attached to the knob c, passing entirely through it, and
be held in place, as shown in Fig. 3.
In practical operation, the crimper, as seen in Fig. 2, is Wound around, or braided, or otherwise supplied with hair. The fork ct, being operated upon as a hairpin, is used when taking the place of a crimper, and the clasp d is then drawn down over the ends ot' the fork at, by means ot' the knob c. The spring I) quickly draws it up tightly against the hair, compressing it, as seen in Fig. 1.
.Having thus fully described my invent-ion, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hair erimper, consisting ot a hair-pin or fork, to the closed end ot which is attached a spiral spring, said spring being provided with a knob, c, and clasp, d, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
