N. L. WRIGHT RIGGING PLATE Filed Feb. 5, 1930 INVENTOR Nswsu. Lwmqsrom WRIGHT AT TOR N EYS Patented Mar. 17, 1931 rqisicr. v
BIGG-ING r A'rn Application filed February 5, 1930. Serial No.v 426,095.
My invention relatesto improvements in rigging plates for use in logging, the objects of which are to provide means whereby a plurality of choker lines may be readily at- 5 tached to or removed from the plate; to provide means whereby said plate may be drawn through brush or upon the ground without its choker lines becoming detached and without causing obstruction to free running of the main line or haul back line to which it is attached.
The invention consists essentially of a hollow body of substantially stream line form which is adapted for attachment to the thimbled end of a main line and a haul back line whereby a pivotal connection is made, said body being provided with a plurality of elongated slots capable of receiving and holding the thimbled end of a similar number of choker lines, as will be more fully described in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a longitudinal view of the plate shown part in section.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Fig. 3 is a general view showing the manner in which the invention is applied to the hauling lines. V
In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
The numeral 1 indicates generally a hollow body of substantially streamline form and provided with a plurality of regularly spaced longitudinal ribs2 in each of which an elongated slot 3 is provided.
The slots 3 are of a width. somewhat greater than that of a choker line and are provided with a side extension 1 terminating in a circular opening 5 of. a diameter somewhat greater than a choker line thimble. The side extensions a are an appreciable distance from the ends of the slots 3 and are preferably formed towards the forward end of the hollow body and on account of the peculiar cross section of said body they terminate at an appreciable distance closer to the longitudinal axis of the body than that portion of the slot 3 from which they extend. Each end of the body is provided with an internal recess 6 having at its base a concentric aperture 7, which is adapted to receive the sleeve 8 of a thimble 9 fitted to main and haul back lines respectively indicated by the numerals 10 and 11.
From the aperture 7 a slot 12 extends which terminates in an enlarged opening 13 through which the thimble 9 is passed to permit the line 10 or 11 to be drawn along the slot 12 and into alignment with the body 1 which then is free to move radially of the lines.
One or more of the hollow bodies 1 are fitted to the hauling lines of a high lead rigging system and one or more choker lines 1 1, each having'a choker hook 15 at one end and a thimble 16 at the other are attached to the bodies by inserting each thimble into an opening 5 and drawing its line 1 1 along an extension t into a slot 3 along which the line and its thimble may slide freely in response to the pull of a log 17 secured to the line 14 by passing a bight around and attaching the hook 15 thereon. The number of choker lines attached to each rigging plate will obviously depend upon the size of the logs and the capacity of the hauling equipment.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A rigging plate comprising a hollow body having a slot adjacent each end and terminating at the longitudinal axis of the body, said body having a longitudinal slot adapted to receive the thimbled end of a choker line.
2. A rigging plate comprising. a hollow body of substantially streamline form and adapted forattachment to a hauling line, and means for attaching the thimbled end of a choker line to the body, said means of attachment consisting of the formation of a slot extending longitudinally of the body and a transverse slot extending therefrom intermediate the length of the former and an enlarged opening at the outer end of the transverse slot capable of passing the thimble therethrough.
3. A rigging plate comprising a hollow body of substantially streamline form, means for attaching a choker line to the body, said body having a slot extending intermediate its length from each end capable of passing a hauling line and having an enlargement at its inner end capable of passing a thimble attached to said hauling line.
4, A. rigging plate comprising a hollow body of substantially streamline form and provided with a plurality of longitudinal ribs, each rib being provided with a choker line slot and each slot having a branch extending to one side of the rib terminating in an enlargement capable of passing the thimbled end of a choker line. 1
