IMPROVEMENT IN PIANO-LEG PROTECTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,690, dated July 1l, 1876; application tiled May 24, 1816.
To all whom it may concern:
, Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. EVANS, of Orrville, NVayne county, State of Ohio, have invented certain Improvements in Piano-Leg Protectors, of which the following is a specification:
rIhe objectof my invention is to provide protectors for piano-legs, which may be readily adjusted and detached as required, for cleanine,` and polishing, piano-legs.
The majority ofpianos in use have their legs tied up in newspapers or cloth, presenting` an unsightly appearance and hiding from view the most elaborately-designed part of the instrument.
My invention consists in constructing protectors for the piano-legs, lot' wire, willowware, cane, or other suitable material, which will effectually protect the exposed or front part ot' the legs, at the same time exposing the leg to View. These protectors are fastened to the underside of the piano-case in such a manner that they fit around the front part ot' the leg, the lower part otl the protectors resting on the iloor, thereby giving them stability and stitl'ness to thoroughly protect the legfrom injury, and a-t the same time allow the beauty ot' the inished carving and polishing' to be seen. w
In order to more fully describe my invention I rel'er to the accompanying drawings,
forming a part of lthis specification.
Figure I represents a side View of my improved protector for piano-legs. Fig'. II is a plan view of the same.
A represents the frame, to which is fastened the Wire net-work a a.. b is a spiral wire lwound around the upper part otl the frame A, giving elasticity to this part of the frame, which touches the under side of the piano-case, when the protector is adj usted or detached. c is another spiral wire wound around the lower part of the frame A, giving elasticity to this part ot the frame which rests on the door. d is an eye made inthe end ot' the upper part ot frame A, for the purpose ot' fastening the protector to a hook applied to the bottom part of the pianovframe. cis a vertical bend of the opposite end ofthe frame A, littiug into a mortise or journal in the bottom otl the piano-frame, allowing. the protector to be swung out from the leg' when it is desired to clean or polish the-same.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to claim- As a new article of manufacture, a piano-leg.
protector, consisting ol" fra-nie A with net-work a, elastic bands b and c, land eye d, and hook e, substantially as described.
