SASH-FASTENERS.
179,606, dated July 4, 1876; application filed March 6, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GUsTAVUs H. RnoK, of Bethlehem, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Sash-Fastener, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a bolt for locking the sash, and a spring-presser for holding the sash up by friction, so combined that the locking-bolt is thrown out of action by the act of unlocking it and raising the sash, so asnot to interfere with the function of the presser, nor act upon the jamb so as to injure it, and is put in action again by the closing ofthe sash down.
The invention also consists of a novel contrivance ofthe spring-presser and the handle for working it, to apply the pressure and release it, all as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved sash-lock. Fig. 2 is an elevation with the front plate removed. Fig. 3 is a section on line y 3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a section of Fig. 2 on line a: 00.

A is the locking-bolt, andB the presser. G is an elbow-lever for withdrawing the bolt; D, a. spring for shooting it out into notch E. F is a piece which drops when the sash rises, and interposes its part or projection to in front of the shoulder b of the bolt, and thus holds it against the spring D, and prevents it from acting against the jamb while the window is raised. When the sash is shut down this piece strikes the stop G, and is stopped before the sash is, and thus raised till the notch (1 allows the bolt to be shot by the spring. The presserB, which is constructed of rubber, or other soft elastic matter that will not injure the jamb of the window, has a wedge behind it in an inclined case, H, which is worked by the handle J and the spring K, the spring keeping up so as to press the presser onto thejanibs, and the handle pulling it down, to release the pressure on the jamb and allow the sash to be raised or lowered.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent .l. The combination of locking-bolt-A, having shoulders I), droppiece F, having projection a, stop G, lever 0, spring I), presser B, inclined case H, wedge-handle J, and spring K, combined and arranged substantially as specified.
2. The presser B, inclined case B, wedgehaudle J, and spring K, combined and arranged substantially as specified.
3. The combination of the sash-holding presser B and a locking-bolt, A, having a drop-piece, F, substantially as specified.
