To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES H. QUAOKEN BUSH, of Kalkaska, in the county of Kalkasha and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Railroad-Gar Spittoon, of which the following is a specification:
The accompanying drawing represents a my improved railroad-car spittoon.
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap and readily-cleaned spittoon for railroad-cars, that may be applied to each seat and used with equal advantage for smokingcars.
The invention consists of an outer tube with Illll ot'inverted conical shape,an intermediate layer or shell of suitable paperor cloth, closed at the bottom, and an interior tube with corresponding and overlapping top rim,the\vhole to be seated into a perforation or seat of the car-floor.
In the drawing, A represents the car-floor, which is provided preferably at each seat, and at other points of the car, with perforations for the insertion of the spittoons. Each perforation has a dishing or seat for the rim of the spittoon. The spittoou consists of an outer longer tube, B, with top rim B, of inverted conical shape, fitting on the dishing of thehole of the door. A shorter tube, 0, is fitted inside of the outer tube, and has an overlapping top rim, 0, by which the ejections, ashes, &c., are conducted to the tube-section C. An intermediate layer or shell, D, of paper, cloth, or other suitable material, secures the tight fitting of the tubes, and closes the bottom CAR-SPITTOONS.

For smoking-cars, the bottom of the paper shellD is covered with sand, so that the ashes may not burn a hole into the same.
The tubes B and (J may be provided \vith notches, rings, or other devices, by which they may be readily lifted out for cleaning, the inner tube being readily washed and the paper shell replaced from time to time, as required. The outer tube is preferably made of tin or suitable material, the inner being made of japanned tin or suitable material, or papiermach, porcelain, or other material, as desired, forming a cheap and convenient spittoon, that takes up no space, keeps the car .clean,and may be easily cleaned and kept in order.
Having thus described my invention, 1- claim as-new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A spittoon for railroad-cars, made of an outer longer tube, an 'interior shorter tube, and an intermediate layer or shell of paper or other fabric, closing the bottom of the interior tube, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
2. A spittoon made of tubular outer and interior sections and an intermediate shell, and provided with a top rim of inverted conical shape, substantially as and for the purpose described.
