Description
March 10, 1931.
J. o. WESNER SHUTTER HOLDER Filed March 4, 1930 Patented Mar. 10, v 1931 N ET E JOHN O. WESNER, OF STEWART MANOR, NEW-YORK SHUTTER HOLDER Application filed. March 4,
- This invention relates to new and useful improvements in shutter holders and has for one of its important objects to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device 5 of this character embodying novel means adapting the same for use in holding shutters of different thicknesses in a manner to pre vent rattling or movement of said shutters;
7 Another important object of the invention 10 is to provide a shutter holder adapted to secure a shutter in open position against the swinging movement and embodying a pivotally mounted gravity actuated latch member adapted for engagement with the shutter to releasably retain the same.
Other objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a shutter holder of the character described which will be extremely simple in construction, strong, durable, efficient in its use and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention may become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is a view principally in longitudinal section showing a shutter holder constructed in accordance with this invention mounted in operative position.
Figure 2 is a perspective viewof the device. Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the reference'numeral 1 designates a flat, horizontally disposed metallic bracket having an integral right angularly 40 disposed upturned extension 2 provided with openings 3 for the passage of the securing screws 4 for rigidly mounting the bracket 1 on the wall 5. I a I Intermediate its ends, the bracket 1 is provided with a struck-up bendable tongue 6 adapted to be engaged by the lowerend portion of the shutter 7, said tongue constituting a stop for the shutter.
As clearly indicated in dotted lines in Figare 1 of the drawing, the tongue is adapted end portion 8 to adapted for engagement with the 1930. SerialNo.{133,991
to be bent to various positions to accommodate shutters ofidifferent widths.
The bracket 1 terminates 'inva down turned which is swingingly secured for movement in medium of the pivotabolts 9 a gravity actuated latch member 10 having an integraliextension' handle 11 thereon of greater length and widththan the latch member 10 and adapted; to normally maintain said latch member in raised operative position, as seen The latch member 10 is opposite side of the shutter 7 from the stop tongue 6. In use, the latch member 10 is manually swung out of the path of the shutter 7 when it is desired to release or secure-said shutter in open position. The greater length and width of the handle extension ll'will retain the latch member inoperative position and 7 the curved upper end portion of said latch member facilitates the swinging movement thereof across the face of the shutter. .sThe bendable tongue 6 may be adapted to shut ters of diflerent thicknesses and said shutter will thus be retained against vibration or rattling between the tongue and the latch member 10.
It is believed that the many advantages of a shutter holder constructed in accordance with this invention will be readily under: stood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is 1. A shutter holder of the character described comprising a bracket, an integral bendable tongue extending from the bracket, and a latch member pivotally mounted for swinging movement on the bracket and engageable with a shutter in a manner to retain the same between the tongue and said latch member. v
2. A shutter holder of the character described comprising a horizontally disposed bracket, an integral, bendable tongue extendv in the. drawing.
ing upwardly from the bracket for engage a vertical plane through the 55' i ment with the shutter and a latch member mounted for swinging movement on the bracket in spaced relation to the tongue and engageable' with a shutter in a manner to retain the same between the tongue and said latch member.
3. A shutter holder of the character described comprising a horizontally disposed bracket, means for securing the bracket on a support, an integral bendable tongue struck up from an intermediate portion of the bracket for engagement by the shutter, said tongue constituting a stop for the shutter and a gravity actuated latch member mounted for swinging movement on the bracket for engagement withia shutterin a manner to retain the same between the tongue and said latch member.
4. A shutter holder of the character described comprising a horizontally disposed, flat, metallic bracket having an integral upturned portion on one end constituting means for vsecuring; said bracket on a support, and a down turned, integral extension on the op posite end, a transversely extending, integral bendable tongue struck up from an intermediate portion of the bracket for engagement by the shutter and constituting a stop therefor and a gravity actuated latch member mounted for swinging movement on the extension for engagement with a shutter in a manner to retain the same between the tongue and said latch member. 7
In testimony whereof I aff x my signature.
JOHN O. WESNER.
