This invention relates to golf b of the type having a folding hoo by w ich the bag may be completely closed and locked for security in ship ing and storin A principal ject is to provi e a construction 1n which the hood folds down over the outside of the bag and in which means are provided whereby access may be had to both handle and shoulder strap in either closed oropen'position of the hood.

A further feature of the invention involves the location of a ball pocket on the hood in such a position that it is exposed when the hood is opened and is shut inside the bag when the hood is closed.

While a referred form of the invention has been disclosed forpurposes of illustra tion, it should be understood that various changes may be made in the structure without departing from the irit and scope of the invention as hereina er set forth and claimed. v

Referring to the drawings more particularly, the reference numeral indicates the main body of the bag, which includes a leather bottom part 11 and a leather top part 12, the intermediate portion being composed of convas or other suitable material and being reinforced by stiffening ribs 13 in a wellknown manner. A handle 14 is attached to the rear side of the bag near its upper end, and a shoulder strap 15 is adjustably secured at its lower end by a buckle 16 fastened to the lower part of the bag, the upper end of the strap being removably attached b a snap fastener 17 to a ring 18 carried by t e bag.

A reversible hood 19 has oneend caught in the seam 20 which holds the leather top part 12 to the body of the -bag. The hood has a slitextending vertically along its forward side, across its top, and partly down its rear side, as will be clear from Figs. 2 and 4. This slit is closed by a slide-actuated fastener, so

When it is desired to open the bag and expose the clubs for use the upper end of the carrying strap is first detached from the bag by relgasin the snap fastener 17 from the mug 1 moved to the end 24 of the slit, thereby releasmgihe slide fastener and permitting the hood to stripped down over the outside of the bag to the positions of Figs. 1 and 3, after which the snap 17 is again engaged with the ring 18. The stra 29, which is carried by one of the free e ges of the hood, is then engaged with the buckle on the other free edge to hold these free edges against annoying movement while the bag is being carried.

A V+shaped notch 25 is cut into the lower end of the hood, and the handle is so located in relation tothe notch that it is accessible for carrying the bag whether the hood is open 9r closed. A slot 26 cut through the hood in the proper placeallows ring 18 to roject through the hood for attachment of t e carrymg strap when the hood is closed.

The ball pocket 27 is closed by a slide actuated fastener 28 and is secured to the side of the hood that is exposed when the hood is open. It is unnecessary to provide a separate lock for this pocket since it is completely shut within the hood when the latter is closed as in Fig. 4. In the improved bag set forth herein the folding hood need not be tucked down inside the bag when the clubs are to be used, as is necessary with conventional bags of this e. Instead, the hood is quickly stripped own over the bag and secured against flapping by the strap 29, the operation of closing and locking the hood being carried out with equal speed and facility. The location of the pocket is such that it is automatically shut within the bag or turned out to an accessible position during the closing or opening of the bag.

I claim:

1. A golf bag comprising a main body, a collapsible hood attached to the upper end of the body, the hood being adapted to be moved to a closed position covering the upper end of the body or to an open position extending over the outside of the body, and a pocket attached to the hood in sucha position as to be shut within the hood when the hood is in closed position and to be accessible when the hood is in open position. I

A golf bag comprising a main body, a collapsible hood attached to the upper end of the body, the hood being adapted to be moved to a closed position covering the upper end of the bodyor to an open position extending over the outside of the body, and a pocket attached to the side of the hood that is innermost when the hood is in closed position.

A golf bag comprising a vbody having an open end, a carrying handle attached to the body adjacent the open end of the body, a hood formed of flexible material and attached about the outside of the body along a line located intermediate the ends of the handle, the side of the hood opposite the handle being slit to ermit closing the hood over the open end of the body or stripping the hood down over the outside of the body, means for closing the hood along the slit, the hood being formed with a cut-out about the handle, the carrying handle passing through the cut-out in both of said positions of the flaps, the hood being movable to a position hood above the top of the bag, means for fastening the edges of the slit together to close thebag, the hood being movable to an open position extending over the outside of the body, and a pocket attached to the side of the hood that is innermost when the hood is in closed position.

4. A golf bag comprising a main body, a collapsible hood attached to the upper end of the body, the hood having a slit extending along one side and across its top to form two aps, the hood being movable to a position above the top of the bag, means for fastening the edges of the slit together to close the bag, the hood being movable to an open position extending over the-outside of the body, means for securing the flaps in open position, and a pocket attached to the side of the hood that is innermost when the hood is in closed position.

5. A golf bag comprising a main body, a collapsible hood attached to the upper end of the body, the hood having va slit extending along one side and across its top to form two flaps, the hood being movable to a position above the top of the bag, a slide-actuated fastener for securing the edges of the slit together to close the bag, the hood being movable to an open position extending over the outside of the body, means for securing the flaps in open position, and a pocket attached to the side of the hood that is innermost when the hood is in closed position, the

A golf bag comprising a body having an open end, a carrying handle attached to the body adjacent the open end of the body, a shoulder stra having one end attached to the body below t e carrying handle, a securing element fastened to the body above the carrying handle and adapted for detachable connection withthe other end of the shoulder strap, a hood formed of flexible material and attached about the outside of the body adjacent the handle, the side of the hood opposite the handle being slit to permit closing the hood over theopen end of the body or stripping the hood down over the outside of the body, means for closing the hood along the slit, the hood being formed with a cutout to permit exposure of the handle, the hood being formed with a second out-out, spaced from the first cut-out and afiording access to said securing element to permit attaching the end of the shoulder strap to said securing element.

9. A' golf bag comprising a body having an open end, a carrying handle attached to the body adjacent the open end of the body, a shoulder strap having one end attached to the body below the carrying handle, a securi-ng element fastened to the body above the carrying handle and adapted for detachable connectlon with the other end of the shoulder strap, a hood formed of flexible material and attached about the outside of the body along a line located intermediate the ends of the handle, the side of the hood opposite the handle being slit to permit closing the hood over the open end of the bod or stripping the hood down over the outsi e of the body, means for closing the hood along the slit, the hood being formed with a cut-out about the handle to permit exposure of the handle in either of said positions of the hood, the hood being formed with a second cut-out, spaced from the first cut-out and 'afiording access to said securing element to permit attaching the end of the shoulder strap to said securing element.

10. A golf bag comprising a body having an open end, a carrying handle attached to the body adjacent the open end of the body, a shoulder strap having one end attached to the body below the carrying handle, a securing ring fastened to the body above the carrying handle and adapted for detachable connection with the other end of the shoulder strap, a hood formed of flexible material and attached about the outside of the body along a line located intermediate the ends of the handle, the side of the hood opposite the handle being slit to permit closing the hood over the open end of the body or stripping the hood down over the outside of the body, means for closing the hood along the slit, the hood being formed with a cut-out about the handle to permit exposure of the handle in either of said positions of the hood, the hood being formed with a second cut-out, spaced from the first cut-out and permitting exposure of the securing ring for connection with the end of the shoulder strap.
