TRAVELERS TOILET CASKET Filed March 4, 1950 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 eh lNYCNTOQ Patented Mar. 10, 1931 PATET Fret ALFRED HOLTER, OF BREVIK, NOR-WAY TRAVELER'S TOILET CASKET Application filed March 4, 1930, s-erial No. 433,105, and in Norway June 25, 1929.
My invention relates to improvements in travelers toilet caskets.
It is a well known fact that the mirrors of railway cars and hotel rooms are often placed so unsuitably in relation to the light, that it is next to impossible to use them for shaving. It 1s often also diflicult to get the usual mlrrors for traveling use placed sultably in relation to the source of light.
in such manner that the lid may be swung with its inside out and be adjusted at any angle suitable for shaving or other toilet purpose. The casket is also fitted with means for the fastening of a strap, arranged to be fittedto the body of the person using it, in such manner that he may have both hands free for the shaving operation.
A toilet casket or case according to my in vention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the casket, with closure parts omitted.
. Fig. 2 is a side View and Fig. 3 is an end View of the same.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of a loose box, arranged to be locked to the toilet casket by aid of the same lock bar which also serves as a holder for the mirror.
In the drawings 1 is the casket, which may for instance be pressed from sheet metal and coated with nickel or the like. 2 is a locking bar, reaching across the whole length or width, respectively, of the casket. One end of this bar 2 is hinged to the side wall of the casket at 3, its opposite end having hinged connection 4 with the lid 5 of'the casket. This lid'is provided with a mirror 6 on the inside. The hinge part 4 is provided with a depending locking tongue 7, adapted to grip a lock projection 8, fitted on the outside of the wall of the casket.
The sides of the casket are provided with loops 9 for fastening on to it a strap (not shown), by aid of which the casket may be fastened to the body. Before this is made,
shown), by aid of which the plate may easily be lifted out of the casket. This plate is also provided with apertures with flanges, serving to keep the various parts of the contents in place.
\Vhen the mirror in the lid of the casket is to be usedas a shaving mirror, this may be arranged by placing the lid 5 in the position illustrated in dot and dash lines in Fig. 2, in which the mirror is propped up against the edge of the casket and is used as a table mirror. I
Or I may swing the mirror entirely out about the hinges 3 and 4 after having first."
emptied the casket by lifting out the plate 10. The empty casket is fastened to the body by aid ofa strap insertedin the loops 9, and the mirror is adjusted in a position suitable for shaving by aidof the hinges 3 and 4.
It may also be convenient to make the lid 5 with its mirror 6 turnable about a bolt (not shown) at right angles to the hinge 4 in order to be able to adjust the mirror at any desired angle.
The bar 2 which reaches right across the length (or width) of the casket may also be utilized for locking a loose toilet box, for instance for soap, brushes or the like, on to the top of the casket 1. This box is suitably divided into two separate containers 12, 13 (Figs. 3 and 4), having a common bottom plate 14. Between the two containers 12, 13 is an intermediate space, covered only by the bottom plate 14, and which is straddled by the bar 2, thus lockingthe box 12, 13, 14 to the casket 1.
In the drawings is by way of example shown a contents of brushes, shaving utensils and the like, but of course this may be varied according to circumstances. I
Claims:

A toilet casket including a body, a clo sure therefor including a lid and a locking bar having one end hinged to one side of the body and the oppositeend detachably connected to the opposite side ofthe body and pivotally connected to the adjacent side of the lid so that when the bar is raised the lid will be swung inside out, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. A toilet casket including a body, a cl0- sure therefor including a locking bar having one end hinged to one side of the body and the opposite end detachably connected to the opposite side of the body, a lid hinged to the detachable end of the bar and normally held in covering position on the body by the car and adapted to be swung inside out when the bar is raised, and a mirror carried by thei'nside of the lid, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
