Description

' Feb; 24, 1931. F. A. MUELLER SPINNING TOP Filed Dec. 2, 1929 .wr me W e 3M A 0 rm latentecl Feb. 24, 1931 FRED A. MUELLER, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA SPINNING TOP Application filed. December 2, 1929. Serial No. 411,156.
This invention relates to spinning tops and the object of the invention is to provide a novel, practically indestructible toy of this character.
5 Referring to the accompanying drawings which are made apart hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the top,
and V Figure 2, an enlargedview partly in section showing the application of the cord to the disk of the top and showing another way of spinning the top.
In the drawings numeral 10 indicates a disk preferably of a heavy metal having perforations 11 at 180 degrees from each other and having a depending point or knob 12 upon which the disk 10 is adapted to spin.
A cord 13 is passed through the perforations 11 and may be provided with a knot or stick, or similar object 14 whereby the disk 10 may be supported by the cord 13.
In operation the player may support the upper loop 15 of the cord on his finger and by means of a stick 16, or, if preferable by the use of his finger, may cause the top to spin by pushing down to tighten the wound portion 17 of the cord 13. This will cause the 3 top to spin very fast whereupon it may rest on the floor or a table to spin on the point 12,
or if preferred it may be supported on the finger, as shown 1n Figure 1, whereupon 1t may be spun very fast to the amusement of the child or other person. If desired the top of the disk 10 may be colored any suitable design to add to the artistic efiect of the top while being spun to add further amusement to the player.
40 As shown in Figure 2 the top may be spun by holding the cord looped over a finger of each hand and moving the hands toward and from each other.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art I v that various changes may be made in my de- 5 dicated in the appended claim.
described in the specification, but only as in- I Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
An oscillating-top comprisinga relatively heavy fiat disk having the middle portion of its underside increasing in thickness as the center is approached providing a pointed projection thereon, a pair of widely spaced holes through the disk on opposite sides of the pro ection to receive the ends of a loop of a cord,
the cord being adapted to be twisted at its central portion to leave an open triangular loop at its upper end to receive the fingers of an operatorfor opening and closing the loopto impart oscillating motion to the disk, substantially as set forth.
twenty-nine.
