s'roon Application filed November 18, 1939.- seriaino. 407,910.
This invention relates to stools especially adapted for convenient use in kitchens, laundries and other places where drying or airing of fabrics is done. i
The object of the invention is to provide a stool that can be made of sheet metal, strong and attractive in appearanc aryet inexpensite to manufacture; to provide a seat memher for the stool adapted to serve the usual purposesof a stool and also arranged to be available as a'portable drying and airing rack for articles being laundered, so they can be placed near a stove orvheater and can be turned about as required for complete and rapid drying or airing.
Another object is to provide a stool that can be used by the operator at a mangle as a convenientrack on which to hang the, freshly ironed artlcles.
further object s to provide means for stowing the drying rods when not in use, so they will remam in compact form when the device is used merely as a stool.
With the foregoing and; certain other objects in view, which will appear later in the specification, the invention comprises the devices described and claimed and the equivalents thereof. I
In the drawings Fig. l is a side view, partly bro-ken away, of a stool embodying my invention.
' seat.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view. I Fig.
7 formed in it near its flanged margin. These depressions may take the form'of a peripherally disposed groove 7a, as shown in Fi 4:,or they may be individual cups or depres slons, as shown in Fig. 2.
The depresslons 7 or 7 a have the1r bottoms 3 is a transverse section through the fermed with apertures .8 spaced apart circumferentiall'yjas shown. A. rod 9 is slid;
inglyfreceiv'ed' in each aperture. Eachrod 5 wn manner.v 'llheother endofthe rod is formed with a knob 11. p ,Whenthe artlcle'isusedas a stool therods end formed to prescntan ofiset, in;

is to be treated for removal of stains it can be spread on top of-the extended arms, the
flange .6 which,
bowl of cleaning material being placed underneath'itjon the stool.
By the means above described I have proconvenient article of manufacture that is well adapted for many uses in the kitchen or laundry and for similar situations.
Having thus described my 1nvent1on, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
'1. A; stool includinga seat plate having a peripheralfiange, said plate having depressions formed therein adj acentthe flange, the bottoms of said depressions having apertures therein spaced apart circumferentially, a rod end formed with a knob, for the purposes set forth.
2. A structure as set forth in claim 1 where.- in the rods when in depending position are held by a centrally .apertured shelf fixed to thelegs of the stool below the seat thereof.
duced a simple and inexpensive and very ,slidingly received in each aperture," an end 7 of saidrod formed with an offset,.the other- 3. A stool including a seat plate having a peripheral flange, said plate having depres sions formed therein adjacent the flange, the
bottoms of said depressions having aperturestherein spaced apart circumferentially and a rod slidingly received in each aperture. V 4-. A structure as set forth in claim 1 Wherein the rods when in depending position are held by a centrally apertured member fixed to the legs of the stool below the seat thereof.
5. In a stool including supporting legs and a seat member thereon formed of sheet metal shaped to present apertured depressions disposed around the seat member nearits periphery, and rods loosely received in said apertures and provided at their ends with n'ieans' adapted to engagecthe bottoms of the depressions and to engage the seat member near the tops of the depressions so as to hold the rods releasably in outwardly projected position I p i 76. The combination of a'stool including supporting legs and a seat thereon formed with apertures around its rim, rods received loosely in said apertures and means associated with the rods for releasably holding them in position Within 'saidjapertures and projectlng outwardly from said seat.
7. In coinhinationwitha structure as set forth in claim 6, means associated Withsaid rods for holding them in retracted position Within said apertures and depending therefrom.
In testimony whereoffl ailiX my signature.
