IMPROVEMENT IN SWITCH AND S IGNAL LOCKING DEVICES.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,290, dated J one 27, 1875; application filed May 1, 1876.
' To all. whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, SMITH H. FINGH, of the city, county, and State of New York, and HENRY MOORE, of Orange, in the county of Essex and in the State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Switch and Signal Lever Locking Device, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a front view of a pair of levers to which our improvement has been applied, the stand being. shown in section. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, the stand being shown in section through the line was, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of 'the sliding bars.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved attachment for switch and signal levers, which shall be so constructed that the movement of the detent to release a lever will lock the other levers, or any previously arranged number of them, before the said lever has begun to move, and so that the said levers cannot be moved until the first one has been brought back to its place an t secured by its sides of the levers O, and engage with notches in the guides B to keep the said levers in place when adjusted.
The dctents D are extended along the rear side of the levers C, and have lugs 01 formed upon the sides of their lower parts, in which are formed inclined slots, to receive pins 6 attached t0 the bars E. The bars E slide in guides in the stands A, and to them are attached hooks 6 one for each lever, to be locked by the movement of the detent of one of said levers, and which hook into holes d in the detents of said levers.
By this construction, as one of the detents D is raised to release its lever O, the inclined slot of the l'ngd acts upon the pin c of the sliding bar E, and forces the hooks e of said bar into holes d in the detents D of-the other levers C, so that the said levers will be locked before the lever being operated begins to move, and will be held locked until said lever has been brought baclt'to its place, and the detent has dropped into place.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the pins 0 and the hooks e of the sliding bars E, with the slotted lugs d and the holes (1 of the detents D, substantially as herein shown and described.
