Description

Feb. 17, 1931. H. A. MASTERS INFANTS FOLDABLE BATHTUB TABLE Filed May 19, 1930 INVENTOR,
ATTORNEY yaw Patented Feb. 17, 1931 UNITED [STATES HERBERT A. MASTERS, or sAlv rnANcrsoo, oALIFo-nnm INFANTS FOLDABLE BAT HTUB TABLE,
. Application'filed May 19, 1930.. Serial No. 4,53 450.
This invention relates to an improved in fants tray adapted for use with bath tubs. An object of my invention is to provide an improved tray or table adapted for use 5 with bath-tubs to support an infant before or after it is bathed.
Another obj ect of my invention is to provide an improved table or tray having a plurality of foldable legs which are adapted to support the table in a convenient position above a bath tub or above the surface of the ground or floor.
A further object of my invention is to provide a foldable table or tray for use in supporting infants, having suitable means embodied therein for mounting "a protective canopy over the same. V
A still further object of my provide an improved tray or table which may 29 be readily folded into compact form.
Other objects more'or less apparent will present themselves or will be specifically pointed out in the description to follow.
In. the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an infants tray or table constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the same supported above a bath tub in a normal operative position; V
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2,2 of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the table or tray, showing a plurality of upright members mounted thereon in a position adapted to support a protective canopy.
The frame of my improved table or tray consists of a pair of rigid side members 1 joined by a pair of hinges 2 to a pair of similarly constructed side members 3, and a pair of rigid cross members 4 secured to the pairs of side members as by screws, angle irons or other suitable means. Extending over the side edges of the side and cross members and suitably aifixed thereto as by tacks, is a sheet 5 of duck, canvas 01 other strong fabric, which, when the frame is opened, constitutes a fiat and firm tray or table on which an infant maybe supported. Suitably secured as by screws to the side members 1 at points adjacent the hinges 2, are cooperating invention is to lock or catchmemb ers 6 .of any well known make, whichwhen in engaged positions, maintainthe frame in an unfolded position with th'ezsheet 5 flatly disposed. The catch members Gare preferably of the spring pressed type, and the cooperating parts thereof may be readily disengaged from each other to permit the frame and sheet to be folded into acompact form. j
.Piv'otally attached to the cross members 4 as by. hinges'l, are two pair of legs 8, each of the, said pairs being secured .to a cross bar 9, asby a screw'or nail, which extends beyond the legs for a certain distance. .One of the legs of each pairis provided atits outwardly disposed side with a projecting pin or screw 10 which is adapted to pass through a hole located in a spring clip llsecuredto a cross member 4. Whenthe pins 10of the legs8 are locatedin the holes oftheclips 11', the legs are maintained in upright positions. o Perm tth fo i g f h legsf o a .PQS tion' Where theyare located partly between the side members 1 and-2 the clips are'manu ally pressed in outward directions to free the said clips from the pins 10.
Detachably mounted between the curved ends of brackets 12 which are secured to the inner sides of the cross members 4, are a number of rods 13. 'Ends of the rods are adapted to be inserted into holes 14 located in the top side of the frame at points adjacent its corners. The rods when positioned in the holes in the frame are vertically disposed to permit the proper supporting of a suitable canopy or covering which may be draped over the same for protection purposes.
As shown in Figure 1, the table or tray when in an unfolded position, may be supported above a bath-tub 14 with the cross- '1 bars 9 resting on the upper edge of the tub and the legs 8 in contact with the inner surface of the same. The legs serve as means for preventing thenormal displacement of the table or tray, while the cross-bars serve to properly support the table or tray in a desirable and convenient position above the tub.
The legs 8 may be positioned closer to or farther from each other so they may be properly accommodated within the side edges of bath tubs of different sizes, by attaching the hinges 7 at different points to the cross members f. The frame and sheet 5 may be either elevated or lowered to the desired position by attaching the cross-bars 9 to the legs at different points thereon.
The tray or table when not used with bathtubs may be placed on a floor or other supporting surface with the ends of the legs rest- 7 ing on the said surface. The sheet 5, when the frame is in an unfolded position, serves to properly support a child placed thereon.
Having described my invention what 1 a claim is:
1. In a bath-tub table, a frame, a sheet extending over the frame, legs pivotally attached to the frame, locking means for normally maintaining the legs in substantially rigid positions with reference to the frame, and cross bars secured to the legs at points thereon between the frame and the ends of the legs, the said cross bars being adapted to rest on the edges of a bath tub to maintain the frame and the sheet above the said tub.
2. In a bath-tub table, a frame, a sheet extending over and attached to the frame, legs pivotally attached to the frame, the said legs being so separated from each other that they are adapted to contact with the inner surface of an ordinary bath-tub, and cross bars attached to the legs at points thereon between the frame and the ends of the legs, the said cross-bars being adapted to rest on the top edges of the bath tub to maintain the frame and the sheet above the said tub.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
HERBERT A. MASTERS.
