Description

Fb. 17, 1931. E. DEsRon-:Rs 1,792,574
HOLDER FOR CLOTHES DRIERS Filed March 3. 1930 J '"ZZea/rasraszffs INVENTOR Patented Feb. 17, 1931 'Unire ELZEAR DESROSIERS, OF LAWRENCE, MASSACHUSETTS HOLDER FOR CLOTHES DRIERS Application filed March 3,
This invention relates to improvements in clothes driers, particularly in driers as described and shown in my Patent No. 1,7 33,485, issued October 29, 1929, and it is the principal object of this invention to improve the means :tor holding the drier in contact with the inside surface of the window frame, allowing a ready adjustment of this holding means to the respective width of a window and so securely lock the parts in their relative adjusted positions.
Another object of my invent-ion is the provision of a clothes drier holding means of simple and inexpensive construction, yet durable and eiiicient in operation.
A further object of my invention is the provision of a holder for clothes driers which may be readily installed in the standard windows of apartment houses, without resort to tools and without the necessity of employing` skilled labor.
These and other objects and advantages of my device will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically defined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary top plan view of my adjustable means for holding the drier frame.
Fig. 2 is an inner front elevation of the device constructed according to my invention.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 3 3 of Figure 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the device on an enlarged scale with the locking member.
As illustrated, a flat horizontal strip 10 has a plurality of notches 11 in its edge, and metal 10 bands 12 and 13 hold a similar strip 14 parallel to strip 10 and enable both strips to be adjusted longitudinally relative to each other, one of the bands being secured to strip 10, as indicated at 15, and the other to strip 14 as indicated at 16.
Clamp members 17 on strip 14, rotatably arranged at one end in a suitable socket 18 engage with their other connected ends 19 in the notches 11 of strip 10 to lock the strips 5 in their relative adjusted positions and have 1930. Serial No. 432,716.
formed with the socket 18 a plate 20 adapted to engage with its end hook 21 in notches 22 having beveled walls 23 formed in a plate 24 secured to member 14 by means of screws 25 or the like.
rllhe member or strip 10 has secured therein the inner ends of braces 26 for the frame of the drier proper, not shown.
'Ihe operation of my device will be entirely clear from the above description and simulif taneous inspection of the drawing, and it will be evident that by means of my device the clothes drier can be iirmly held in a window by properly adjusting the relative positions of strips 10 and 14 to the respective width of .65 a window and locking the two strips in their adjusted positions by means of the locking member 21.
It will be understood that I have no desire or" limiting myself to the exact construction disclosed, but that I may make such changes in its construction as come within the scope of the appended claims without departure from my invention.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a clothes drier supporting means a pair of relatively adjusted strips, one of said strips notched, a socket on the other strip, a clamp member rotatable at one end in said socket and adapted to engage with its other end one of the notches in said notched strip, a plate secured to the other strip provided with notches, a locking member formed with said socket and adapted to engage the notches j in said plate for locking the strips on their relative adjusted positions.
2. A support for clothes drier frames comprising` a pair of strips longitudinally displaceable to each other in the direction of their longitudinal aXes, one of said strips notched at its outer edge, a plate attached@ to the inner face of the l#other strip having a plurality of sockets formed therein with beveled walls, a socket, a clamp member turnab-ly arranged at one end in said socket, the connected opposite end of said clamp member adapted to engage any one or the other of Said notches, a Ylocking plate formed with "0 said socket, and a hook formed with said plate engaging either of the plate notches for holding the clamping member in its adjusted position.
In Witness whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
ELZEAR DESROSIERS.
