The present invention relates to screw hoists and particularly to hoists adapted for application to 'motor-trucks for raisingthe body of the truck and dumping the same.
Objects of the invention are to improve hoists of this character and to maintain an increase of efficiency thereof, while at the same time decreasing the weight.

The clutch 27 is then moved by means of the forked lever 47 pivota-lly attached to the clutch and pivoted at 48 in the side ofthe gear box, the relationship of the gears inV I the gear box-being such that when the clutch is connected for hoisting the movement will be much slower than when it is connected for loweringlthe body of the truck.` I Vprefer a` i relationship suchthat will lower the body at a speed about threel times as great as that employed in raising the same, It vwill be understood that in an emergency the body may be raised by this mechanism by hand. Having described my invention, what I claimisf Y y Ina device of the character described, upper and lower spaced parallel brace members, end housings having spaced apertured lugs, bolts passed through the brace members and lugs lfor holding the end housings associated with the brace members, a counter shaft journaled in said brace members, sprockets carrled by said shaft, screw voperating nuts journaled in the end housings, sprockets thereon, endless chains. trainedV over the sprockets of said screw operating nuts and over the sprockets ,onY said shafta gear boX secured to the lowermost brace member and receivingsaid shaft, gears loosely lmounted Y on the shaft and arranged in said gear boX, a
