, The main vobject of this invention is to provide a gas burner for cooking stoves which is very compact and at thesame time is eficient, the gas being very uniformly distributed throughout the burner.
A further object is to provide a gas burner which is well adapted ufor use in cooking stoves or ranges having concealed mani-folds, that is, manifolds that are set into or covered by the frame, thereby decreasing the burner space. A

A structure which embodies the features of my 'oinvention is clearly illustrated in the `provements in an embodiment which I have accompanying drawing in which:

Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail on line 3-3 of Figs.v 1 and 2. so My improved burner comprises an annular body 1 having an annular passage or chamber 2 therein and radial arms 3 opening to the passage. The jet orifices 4c are arranged in radial series so that they are uniformly 85 distributed about the burner.
The mixing tube 5 is relatively short and is dispose/d tangentially of the annular body and its Venturi passage Gopens tangentially 4into the annular passage of the burner body which constitutes a circular extension or continuation thereof. The inwardly expanding portion of the venturi indicated at 7 merges into the wallsof the passage 2. This mixing tube is arranged in a plane below the radial arms and its top 'wall 8 projects into the passage 2 and also its inner side wall 9. These walls constitute baffles for the overlying burner arms and serve. to direct the incoming mixture or gases into the burner passage so that it Hows around the same in one direction.

The gas nozzle indicated at 10 is controlled from the valve 11. The air shutter is indicated at 12. This arrangementjpermits the A forming of the burner with a very short pro.- jecting B unsen tube portion as a portion of the mixing tube is within the burner body, and at the same time the gas and air are effectively mixed and Very uniformly distributed to the jet-orifices or other ra lal burner tip members 13 in which the jet oriices are formed. The.central opening 14 in the burner body permits secondary air to ow therethrough.
The upper portion of the wall of this opening 14 is pre erably outwardly flared at 15, the inner )et orifices 4 being in this wall.
I havev illustrated and described my imfound highly practical. I have not attempted to illustrate or describe certain modifications or adaptations which I contemplate as it is believed that this disclosure will enable those skilled inthe art to embody or adapt the same as may be desired. .A
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desireto secure by Letters Patentis: v,
1. A gas burner comprising an annular body portion yhaving an annular passage therein and radial arms opening thereto and provided with radially disposed series of jet orifices extending into said arms, and a relatively short mixing tube disposed tangen- 'tially of said annular body portion and opening tangentially to said annular passage therein whereby the passage constitutes a curved continuation of said mixingftube, said mixing tube` being disposed in a plane below said arms in underlying relation to one of them, the top and inner side wall of said mixing tube being extendedinto said passage in said burner body portion to constitute baliles for the adjacent burner arms and to direct the incoming gases into said annular passage. t 2. gas burner comprising an annular` body portion having an annular passage therein and radial arms opening thereto and provided with radially disposed series of jet orifices extending into said arms, and a rela- 1M l meneer tively short mixing tube disposed tangentially of said annular body portion and opening tangentially to said annular passage therein whereby the passage constitutes a v 5 curved continuation of said mixing tube, said mixing tube being disposed in a plane below said arms in underlying relation to one of them.

A gas burner comprising an annular m body portion having an annular passage therein and radial arms opening thereto and provided with radially disposed jet orices extending into said arms, and a Venturi mixing tube opening tangentially to said annular 15 passage whereby the passage constitutes a curved continuation of said mixing tube, the expanding portion of said venturi being merged into the walls of said annular passage. d.
