This invention relates to. stencil-duplicafl ing machines, and more particularly to means for registering the print on the work.
In an application for stenciLduplicating 5 machines filed by me October 8,1925, Serial N 0. 61,172, I have described. a stencilduplicating machine in which detent means associated with the printing cylinder, acts as a stop against which the cylinder may be 1 rotated in reverse direction, so that .the operator may place the cylinder in exactly the same relative position with respect to the leading edge of every sheet of work printed. The stop means referred to is not capable of adjustment, and therefore if the prlnting is placed a little too near or a little too far from the leading edge of the printed sheets, or not in correct registration withthe lines of lined sheets, or with spaces thereon, it is necessary to adjustthe stencil-sheetton the cylinder drum in order to bring the printing into the desired position on the printed sheets. Eifecting such registration by removing and adjusting the stencil-sheet is a difiicult and time-consuming operation, and
usually results in the operators hands becoming soiled with ink from the stencilsheet and ink-pad.
The principal ob'ect of the present invention is to. provi e detent means for the counter rotation of the cylinder which 'is adjustable with respect to the cylinder so that the operator may correct or adjust the registration of the print on the printed sheets by merely adjusting the detent means and without being required to make any adjustment of v the stencil-sheet on the impression-cylinder.
A further object of the invention is to provide print registration means of the character described which are simple in construction, positive andefiicient in operation, and readily andeasily adjustable.

For the purposes of illustrating the applicatlon of the invention to rotary du licating mach nes, I have shown "the reglstration *rheans applied to a rotary duplicating machine of the type disclosed in my said application. It is to be understood, however, that my invention may also be applied to rotary dupllcating machines of other constructions.
As shown in, the drawings, the duplicating mach ne comprises suitable frame-work 1, on whlch is Journaled an impression-cylinder 2, having a shaft 3 and a hand-lever 4, whereby the lmpression-cylinder may be rotated in either direction. v
Therubber impression-roller 5 is j ournaled on swinging arms 6, which'are engaged by a cam-shaft 7, to the end of which issecured a hand-lever 8, whereby the cam-shaft 7 may be rotated to place the swinging arms 6 and the impression-roller 5 in raised position, in which the impression-roller is in printing contact with the impression-cylinder 2, or in lowered position, in which the impressionroller 5 is out of contact with the cylinder 2. The shaft 3 ofthe impression-cylinder carries a collar 9, which has anotch 10, in which a spring-pressed pawl 11 is adapted to be received to stop rotation of the impression-cyl inder 2 in the direction reverse to printing rotation. A pin-and-slot engagement between pawl 11 and the links 12 and 13 causes the pawl 11 to be withdrawn from the notch 10 whenever the handle 8 is swung to off position, thus releasing the cylinder 2' for counter-rotation, and at the same time the impression-roller 5 is held out of contact therewith, so that it cannot become smeared with ink from the impression-cylinder. llhe pinand-slot connection between the link 12 and the pawl 11 permits the collar 9 to depress the pawl 11 as the cylinder is rotated in printing direction.

pawl 11 is adjustable relatively to the collar 9 in such a way that the operator may set the pawl 11 to stop the counter rotation of the impression-roller in any one of a number of positions within certain limits.
To this end, the pawl 11. fs providedwith a circular aperture in which seats the hub 14 of a lever 15. Hub ll is provided with an eccentrically located hole 16 and is pivotally mounted thereby on a stud l7 fixed in the frame of the machine. A screw 18 holds the hub in position on the stud.

A pin 24, carried on the pawl 11, engages in the slot 25 of the link-member l2. spring 26, coiled about this pin and having one end 27 engaging the frame 1 of the machine, resiliently presses the end of pawl 11 against the collar 9.
Preferably, the circular edge of the tail 23 of the pawl 11 is graduated and the lever 15 is provided with a pointer 28 to indicate approximately the adjusted position oi the pawl and consequently the approximate stopping position of the impression-cylinder.

These two extreme positions of the impression-cylinder are indicated respectively on the drawing by the dash lines A. and B. By adjusting the lever 15 to the proper intermediate position, the counter rotation of the impression-cylinder 2 may be stopped by the pawl 11 in any desired position between these extremes.

l. in an apparatus of the character described, in combination, a rotatable cylinder and means forlimiting rotation of the cylinder in a certain direction, said means including an element rotatable with the cylinder, and a coacting stop pawl mounted on a shiftablepivot, and means, including a finger grip element, for adjusting the position of said shiftable pivot to vary the rotative stop position of the cylinder.
2. in an apparatus of the character described. in combination, a rotatable cylinder, means for limiting rotation of the cylinder in a certain direction, said means including an element rotatable with the cylinder, and a matching stop pawl mounted on a shiftable pivot, means, including a finger grip element, for adjusting the position of said shiftable pivot to vary the rotative stop position of the cylinder, and means controlled through said finger piece for locking said pivot in adjusted position.
3. In an apparatus of the character described, in com ination, a rotatable cylinder and means for limiting rotation of the cylin der in a certain direction, said means including an element rotatable with the cylinder, an eccentrically mounted member and a pawl pivotally carried on said eccentrically mounted member, and means, including aginger grip element, for adjustmg the posi ion of the eccentrically mounted member to vary the rotative stop position of the cylinder.
4 In an apparatus of the character described, in combination, aframe, a cylinder rotatable on the frame, a notched element rotatable with the cylinder, a hub mounted for eccentric rotation on said frame, a stop pawl pivotally mounted on said hub and coacting with said notched element, whereby rotation of said hub on the frame shifts said pawl bodily with respect to said notched element, and means, including an adjustable lever, whereby said hub may be rotated to vary the rotative position of the cylinder when the notched element is rotated into engagement with said pawl.

In an apparatus of the character described, in combination, a frame, a cylinder rotatable on the frame, a notched element rotatable with the cylinder, a hub mounted for eccentric rotation on said frame, a stop pawl pivotally mounted on said hub and coacting with said notched element, whereby rotation of said hub on the frame shifts said pawl bodily with respect to said notched element, means, including an adjustable lever, whereby said hub may be rotated to vary the rotative position of the cylinder when the notched element is rotated into engagement with said pawl, and means for locking said lever in adjusted position.

In an apparatus of the character described, in combination, a frame, a cylinder rotatable on the frame, a notched element rotatable with the cylinder, a hub mounted for eccentric rotation on said frame, a stop pawl pivotally mounted on said hub and coacting with said notched element whereby rotation of said hub on the frame shifts said pawl bodily with respect to said notched element, means, including an adjustable lever, whereby said hub may be rotated to vary the rotative position of the cylinder when the notched element is rotated into engagement with said pawl, said pawl having an enlarged tail portion, and means for locking said lever to said tail portion, whereby said lever is held in adjusted position.

In an apparatus of the character described, in combination, a frame, a cylinder rotatable on the frame, a notched element rotatable with the cylinder, a hub mounted for eccentric rotation on said frame, a stop pawl pivotally mounted on said hub and coacting wit-h said notched element, whereby rotation of said hub'on the frame shifts said ment, means includin in a pawl bodily with respect to said notched elewhereby said hub may rotated to vary the rotative position of the cylinder when'the notched e ement is rotated into engagement with said pawl, said pawl havin an enlarged tail portion, and means for locking said lever to said tail portion, whereby said lever is held in adjusted position, said tail portion being graduated and said lever having a coacting pointer for indicating the adjusted position of said sto pawl relatively to the notched element an cylinder.

In an apparatus of the character described, in combination, a frame, a rotatable cylinder, a cylinder shaft, a stop member carrled on said shaft for rotation therewith and having a stop portion, an eccentrically rotatable pivot mounted on the frame, a pawl rotatably mounted on said pivot and adapted to coact with said stop member to stop the cylinder upon rotation in a certain direction, predetermined position, and means for rotating the eccentrically rotatable pivot to adjust the pawl relatively with respect to the stop member to vary the predetermined an adjustable lever,
