TAP HOLE SOCKET FOR BARRELS AND OCIHER'LIKE CONTAINERS Filed Juh 25. 1928 a I I b socket.
Patented Feb. 3, 1931 ousuv m, or nrsmmcn, GERMANY I ran-HOLE socxn'r non BABRELS Application filed June 25, 1928, Serial In.
The subject of my invention is a taphole socket for beer barrels or other liquid containei's, whether of iron, wood, or other material.
Hitherto the tap hole in the tap hole socket has been closed by means of a cork which resulted in manymishaps'. Al stead of a cork bung within the bung -hole, ,flat metallic plates have been used which arrangement, however, is also unsatisfactory.
In such tap hole sockets also a thin metal cap has'been employed, but, solely for protecting plates. p
The invention consists in providin the )5 socket at its inner end with abeaded ange or portion onto which a crown cork is fixed.
This portion onto which the cork is fixed can either be integrally formed with the socket, or can be a separate part attached to the By this invention all the usual mishaps are avoided. A

socket and the latter replaced in the bung of any suitable implement inserted through the socket.
What I claim is:
A metal tap hole socket comprising a hollow body having a screw-threaded portion for removably securing the socket within a tapped opening in acontainer wall with the tapered inner end of the body extending into the container, said-"inner end being formed with rounded bead, and a crown seal having a disc-like; portion and a flange portion adapted to be crimped around said bead.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my GUSTAV KIE E.
a is the tapering hollowbody portion having formed at one end thereof an enlarged rim portion a, and being provided; adjacent thereto with athreaded portion a a, is the tapered portion terminating in the beaded portion a all as clearly shown in Fig. 2. b is the crown cap or seal of a well known construction, adapted to be crimped upon the beaded portion a of the socket; The
cap b comprises a circular disk-like portion b and a marginal flange portion 6 which as stated and as shown is "crimped upon the beaded portion a so as to be firmly held thereon.
The body a with a cap or seal 6 crimped thereon is adapted to be threaded into the bung hole of a container such as a barrel, keg or the like, whereby the contents of the container normallyare prevented from escaping through the bung hole. When, however, it is desired to remove the contents of the container, the socket may be removed 50 from the bung and the cap removed from the
