The topis connected to the n0 Figure 31s a top plan view of the dresser body portion by suitable hinges 4 and may l ll be locked in an upright position by supporting brackets 5, said supporting brackets being pivoted to the top at 5n and being slotted as at 6 to receive projections 7 ylized to opposite' through Vpull rods 10, saidlatches being pivoted at 11 and normally held in lockingposi-r tion by leaf springs 12. Said'pull rods-10 are connected to levers 13 which are adapted to actuate the fingers 14, said fingers engaging` the extremities 8" of they latches 8 when actu# ated, thereby depressing thelatches tol release the fixed projections 7.
As shown in Figures 5, 6, and 7, the hand lever 9 is iixedto a rocker shaft 15 which is e rotatably mounted in threaded cup members 16 carried by threaded extensions 17 on the supportingbrackets 5, said rocker shaft carrying the two pull rod actuating arms 13and causing. simultaneous operation of the latch members 8 when the hand lever .is moved. This hand lever is retained by a resilient clip 19 in an Vvout-of-the'-way position along the side of the supportingI bracket after releasing the latches. i Y
The latch 3'for the side mirrors comprises a casingl 2O which isslotted to receive a shiftable latch member 21 adapted to be actuated by a knob 22, said latch member being normally held in intermediate position by springs 23. The casing carries an extension 24 from which projects a loop 25 adapted to engage a lock 26 when the top is in lowered position.
With thervanitydresser in the position vas shown in Figure 1, when it is desired to close'- it for use as a table, the side Amirrors arel swung toward each other against the center mirror. the latch being shifted to allow irst one and then the other to become fully -closed and held in position, thebacking ofithese side mirrors constituting `a protection for the 45 v large mirror and for the small mirrors as well when swung into this closed position. To lower the top, the liandlever is grasped with one handand the other hand is placed along the edge of the topV near the center to steady it. yAs. the lever is pulled forward, disengaging it from the clip 13, the rocker arm is vrotated causing the levers :18 to actuate the pull` rods 10 and rotatethe levers 13 about their pivots, thereby drawingthelatch members 18 down into the recess insthe supportingV brackets, and allowing the supportported on a shelf 28, bringing the dresser in- 2 to the position of Figure 1 merely requires the lifting of the top after unlocking the same, whereupon the supporting brackets will slide on .the projections and automatically lock the top in a substantially vertical position where the latch 3 may be manipulated to release the side mirrorsV allowing them to-beswung vto the position-desired. rljhe bench may be drawn forward and placed lirrposition in frontof the dresser for use. The raising of the top renders all of the toiletv articles Vreadily accessible.
' kWhile the specific details of construction have been herein shown and described, the invention is not. confined thereto as changes andalterations may be made without departing from the spirit thereof as defined bythe .appended claims.
