E. KOVARY SIZE DIVIDER Jan. 271
Filed Nov. 1, 1928 EUGENE X01441? y A ()RNEYS Patented Jan. 27, 1 931 mom xovany, or mew Yonx, iv. Y.
SIZE DIVIDEB Application filed November 1, 1988. Serial No. 818,580.
This invention is an improvement in size dividers, of the character used on racks, or
the like, to segregate the garments.
Size dividers in the form of hangers supported by a hook, or the like, are very liable to dislodgement when movin the garments for inspection, or the like, since hfting or s 'ng movement of the hangers tend to dislodge them from the supporting bar.
One of the rimary objects of the present invention is t e provision of a divider in the form of a plate of suitable size, having an o ning to loosely receive the bar, and a restrlcted slot connectin the opening with an edge of the plate to acilitate placing of the divider on the bar.
Another object is the provision of an arrangement of restricted slot such that the walls thereof may be displaced laterally with respect to each other to enable the entrance of the bar into the opening.
Another object is the provision of a sIot so inclined as to form a pointed tongue above the slot easily displaceable laterallyfor the purpose set forth.
Another object is the provision of means in connection with the tongue serving as a stop at the outlet end of the opening, and as a means for engagement by the bar to facilitate the lateral displacement of the tongue with respect to the plate.
Another object is the so shaping of the plate that it will hang with its side edges vertical.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts fully described- Fig. -1 is a perspective view of a number of Y hangers in connection with a bar and segregated as to sizes by the improved dividers.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a divider.
In the present embodiment of the invention the improved divider is shown in connection'with a supporting bar 1, which may be a part of a rack, or the like, and the bar supports a plurality of hangers 2, each of which has a hook 3, or the like, for engaging 56 the bar. Garments 4, in the present instance ladies dresses, are arranged on the hanger, and the improved divider is engaged with the bar between the sizes of the garments, which are segregated into collections of like 60 sizes.
The improved divider indicated generally at 5, is formed from a sheet or plate of suitable sheet material, such for instance, as paper board, and the like, and it is approximately rectangular in shape. An opening 6 is provided for receiving the bar 1, the said opening being elongated or slot like, as shown, and arranged with its long dimension in the long dimension of. the plate.
The opening is of a size to engage the bar loosely, and from the lower end thereof an inclined restricted slot 7 leads to an edge of the plate. The slot inclines downwardly and laterally, and the slot connects with the opening 6 at the middle line thereof, so that a pointed tongue 8 is formed at that side of the opening adjacent to the side to which the restricted slot leads. The inlet of the restricted slot in the edge of the plate is en-, larged as indicated at 9, to about the width of the opening 6, that is, to a width to looselfi receive the bar, the slot being of less width t an the diameter of the bar. The enlargement is made by removing material below the slot. Thus the enlargement is provided without interferring with the shape of the tongue 10..
The arrangement of the slot and its relation to the opening 6, provide for a relatively I the tongue has two points, one at the inner lower end indicated at 8, and one at the outer lower end indicated at 11, the latter being due to the inclination of the slot. These points facilitate the entrance and the removal of the bar, which is entered or removed, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2.
To place the divider on the bar, the bar is engaged with the inlet 9, and the plate is twisted laterally so that the bar forces the tongue 10 into the dotted line position of Fig. 2, and the bar slips easily through the restricted slot, which is widened to the required dimension by the lateral swinging of the tongue. The point 11 facilitates the action of the bar in swinging the tongue. To release the divider, the above described movement is reversed, and now the point 8 facilitates the swinging of the tongue 10.
In order to equalize the weight of the plate 5, so that it will hang vertical from the bar, with its side edges substantially perpendicular, the lower corner at that side remote from the tongue 10 is rounded off as shown at 12, to compensate for the weight of material removed in the formation of the slot 8 and the inlet 9. This causes the plate to hang vertical. If desired, printed matter may be arranged on the plate, or it may be suitably ornamented, as for instance, by binding the ed e.
i will be apparent that in order to provide the element 8, or a corresponding element, it is suflicient to make the communication of the slot 7 with the opening 6 at a point spaced apart from that edge of the plate toward which the slot 7 leads, and at which it opens.
What is claimed as new is 1. A size divider including a plate of substantially rectangular form, having an elongated opening with its long axis substantially parallel with opposite side edges of the plate and terminating at a point normally above the center of gravity of the plate, said plate having a slot of less width than the opening leading from the lower end thereof downwardly and outwardly, to form a pointed tongue above the slot between the opening and the adjacent edge of the plate, said tongue having a pointed extension above the inner end of the slot for the purpose specified, said plate being of slightly flexible material, and of a weight such that it will normally assume a vertical position in use.
2. A size divider including a plate of substantially rectangular form having an elongated opening with its long axis substantially parallel with opposite side edges of the plate and terminating at a point normally above the center of gravity of the plate, said opening being adapted to receive a hanger bar for the divider, and of substantially the width of the hanger bar diameter, said plate having a slot of less width than the opening lea ing from the lower end thereof to an edge of the plate, and inclining downwardly'from the opening to form atongue between the opening and the said edge, said plate being of a material somewhat flexible, and of a weight such that it will normally assume a vertical position in use.
3. A size divider including a plate of substantially rectan ular form having an elongated opening with its long axis substantially para lel with opposite side edges of the plate and terminating at a point normally above the center of gravity of the plate, said opening being adapted to receive a hanger bar for the divider, and of substantially the width of the hanger bar diameter, said plate having a slot of less width than the openin leading from the lower end thereof to an e ge of the plate, and inclining downwardly from the openin to form a tongue between the opening an the said edge, said plate being of a material somewhat flexible, and of a weight such that it will normally assume a vertical position in use, the slot having an enlarged inlet at the plate edge of substantially the width of the opening.
4. A size divider including a plate of substantially rectangular form having an elongated opening with its long axis substantially parallel with opposite side edges of the plate and terminating at a oint normally above the center of gravity 0 the plate, said opening being adapted to receive a hanger bar for the divider, and of substantially the width of the hanger bar diameter, said plate having a slot of less width than the opening leading from the lower end thereof to an edge of the plate, and inclining downwardly from the opening to form a tongue between the o ening and the said edge, said plate being 0 a material somewhat flexible,
and of a weight such that it will normally assume a vertical osition in use, the slot having an enlarged inlet at the plate edge of substantially the width of the opening, said inlet being wholly in the lower side of the slot.
5. A size divider including a plate of substantially rectangular form having an elongated opening with its long axis substantially parallel with opposite side edges of the plate and terminating at a point normally above the center of gravity of the plate, said opening being adapted to receive a hanger bar for the divider, and of substantially the width of the hanger bar diameter, said plate having a slot of less width than the opening leadin from the lower end thereof to an ed e of t e plate, and inclining downwardly om the opening to form a tongue between the opening and the said ed e, said plate being of a material somewhat exible, and of a weight such that it will normally assume avertical position in use, the plate having the lower corner at the side remote from the edge to which the slot leads out away and rounded for the purpose specified.
