It will be particularly noted thatthe extension piece 9 is provided with the key-way 21 so that it fitsover the key 7 that extends substantially the length ofthe shaft5.

The entire shaft 5is reciprocated through the medium of the usual mechahismQnot illustrated,but which is well known in the art. The driving gear 24 is ill'ustrated as being keyed-as at 25 to the outer end .of the shaft 5. It isof course understood that through the proper mechanism, the shaft 5 is rotated and reciprocated simultaneously to spread the ink evenly upon' anintermediate composition roll which distributes the ink to the typeface.
