Description

Jan. 20, 1931. c. A. MEUNIER ADJUSTABLE ORNAMENTAL LEADER STRAP Filed April 12, 1928 WITNESSES ATTORNEYS Patented Jan. 20, 1931 waste UNITED STATES PA ENTLQ FICE CHARLES A. MEUNIER, OF GREAT NECK, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR C A. M MANUFAC- TUBING COMPANY, INC. OF GREAT NECK, NEW"YO R-K, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK ADJUSTABLE OR-NAMENTAL LEADER STRAP Application filed April 12,1928. SerialNo. 269,587.'
This invention relates to an improvement in ornamental leader straps which conceal the means employed for fastening the leader to the house or building.
1 Leaders are attached or secured to a house or building in various ways, the different methods employed causing the leader to be positioned flat against the wall or at various- 1y spaced relations therefrom. Obviously, these modes of attachment necessitates the employment of ornamental concealing straps, the loop or medial portion of which must vary in accordance with the different means of attachment employed in the installation of the leaders.
The invention, therefore, primarily comprehends an ornamentalleader strap which is adjustable to meet with the various conditions heretofore specified. More specifically the invention comprehends an ornamental leader strap in which the central leader embracing portion is relatively adjustable with respect to the feet and in which means is provided for locking and maintaining the adjustment. As a further feature, the invention contemplates optional means for attaching the ornamental leader strap in place which does not detract from the appearance of the ornamental leader strap when installed.
Other objects of the invention reside in the comparative simplicityof construction and mode of adjustment of the leader strap, the economywith which the same may be produced and installed and the general efiiciency derived therefrom.
With the above recited and other objects in view, reference is bad to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which there is exhibited one example or embodiment of the invention, while the claims define the actual scope of the same.
In the drawing,-
Figure 1 is a front view of an ornamental leader strap applied to the leader, a portion beingbroken away to disclose the underlying structure; 7
. Figure 2 is a sectional plan view thereof illustrating the ornamental leader strap associated with a leader attached in accordance with one of the methods of installation.
Figure 3 is a similar view illustrating the ornamental .leader strap associated with a leader attached by another mode of lnstallation. j
. Figure 4 is a fragmentary collective per-' Y spective view of the elements of the leader strap separated andin juxtaposition.
Figure 5 is a similar view illustrating the elements connected and locked in adjusted relation. v
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, A designates a leader and Ban attaching element illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, which consists merely of a strip of metal embracing the leader A and anchored to the building C by means of nails, screws or other fastening devices D driven through the out-turned ends E of the strip. In Fig ure 3, there is illustrated a different mode of attaching the leader A to the building C which consists of a fork F having a tine G driven into the buildingwall, the fork partially embracing the leader and havingits terminals reversely bent to form hooks H.
A. wall or other binding element is attached respectively to the hooked terminals H and serves to embrace the remaining portionof the leader. a v
The ornamental leader strap constituting the presentinvention and adapted merely for the purpose of covering or concealing the fastening means which attach the leader to the building wall includes a pair of outer base sections designated generally by the reference character J and an intermediate section designated generally by the reference character K. The sectien K is adjustably associated with the sections J so that the ornamental'strap is capable ofadjustment to fit over the leader and its attaching means irrespective of whether theleader is directly impinged against the building wall C or spaced therefrom any of the varyingdistances which are ordinarily met with in the various installations employed. ,In the embodiment of the invention illustrated, the outer base sections J each include a. foot 10 and a leg 11 disposed at an angle thereto, the foot and base being of substantially channelshape in cross section. As specifically illusthe leg, the flanges 17 thereof are provided with lugs 18 which are bent inwardly to overlie the flanges while disposed in spaced parallel relation thereto.
The intermediate section K is also of channel shape construction in cross section and is provided ;with a bight portion 19 and a pair of leg portions 20 which are adapted to'telescopically fit the leg portions 11 of the outer or base sections, the flanges 21 of the leg portions fitting within the flanges 17 of the leg portions 11 withthe inturned lugs 18 embracing the same. The flanges 21 are slotted inwardly from their free ends as at 22 to provide a bendable tongue 23 which after the sections have been properly adjusted to coincide with the leader installation. are reversely bent as clearly illustrated in Figure 5. to retain the sections in adjusted relation. In many instances, the ornamental strap is soldered in place on the leader, whereas in other instances the ornamental strap is retained in place by nail, screw or other fastening device illustrated at L. In such instances, for the purpose of accommo dating the nail or screw L, the ear and the body portion of the foot are provided with aligned apertures 24 and 25. Ordinarily the tab 15 is disposed behind the apertures 24: and 25 to lend a finished appearance to the strap when the same is to be held in place by soldering. When, however, a nail, screw or other fastening device L is used, the driving of the same through the apertures 24 and 25 as illustrated in Figure 2 deflects the tab laterally without destroying its holding qualities.
From the foregoing, it will thus be seen that an adjustable ornamental leader strap for covering or concealing the leader attaching means has been devised which will be readily applicable to leaders irrespective of the type of installation employed.
What is claimed is:
1. In an ornamental leader strap, a pair of outer sections each including a foot and an inwardly disposed leg; an intermediate section including a bight and a pair of legs; and an adjustable telescopic connection between the legs of said outer sections and intermediate sections.
2. In an ornamental leader strap, a pair of outer sections each including a foot and an inwardly d sposed leg an intermediate section including a bight and a pair of legs; and an adjustable telescopic connectionbetween the legs of said outer sections and intermediate sections and interengageable means for retaining said sections in relatively adjusted relation.
3. In an ornamental leader strap, a pair of outer sections of substantially channel shape in cross section and each including a foot and an angularly disposed leg; an intermediate section of substantiallychannel shape in cross section including a bight and a pair of legs; and an adjustable telescopic connection be tween the legs of said outer and intermediate sections.
l In an ornamental leader strap, a pair of outer sections of substantially channel shape incross section and each including a foot and an angularly disposed leg; an intermediate section of substantially channel shape in cross section including a bight and a pair of legs; and adjustable telescopic connection be tween the legs of said outer and intermediate sections. the flanges of the legs of the outer section having inturned spaced parallel lugs embracing the flanges of the legs of the intermediate section.
In an ornamental leader strap, a pair of out-er sections otsubstantially channel shape in cross secti-onand each including a foot and an angularly disposed leg; an intermediate section of substantially channel shape in cross section. including a bight and a pair of legs; and an adjustable telescopic connection between the legs of said outer and intermediate sections. the flanges of the legs of the outer section having inturnedspaced parallel lugs embracing the flanges of the legs of the intermediate section and the flanges of the legs of the intermediate section being slotted to provide bendable tongues adapted to interengage with the lugs for retaining the sections in relatively adjusted position.
Signed at Great Neck in the county of Nassau and State of New York this 6th day of April, 1928. V
