ADJUSTABLE RING HOLDER AND SPRING WASHER Filed March 13, 1930 INVENTOR Wm ATTORNEY Y Patented Jan. 13, 1931 UN ITEDEST res PAT ENT WALTER cox, E METHUEN, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR To-GARDNEEIW. PEARSON,
TRUSTEE, oE LOWE LL, MA S CHUS TTS" ADJUSTABLE RINGnoLnEE- rm SPEING WASHEE Application filed March is, 1930. Serial No. 435,598.
This invention relates to what-maybe called ring frames such as are used 1n the manufacture of yarn and thread usually known as spinning frames or twistingframes. i
In such frames there is a row or there are two rows of metal guide rings around which a wire guide known as a traveler moves in I the'process of delivering roving or yarn to o abobbin and in the, process of spinningv or twisting -it and winding it onthe bobbin.
In such frames, there are usually a series of spindles upon which-,or with which revolve the bobbins upon which the spun or twisted thread or yarn istorbe wound.
In order that the best results may be obtained, the axis of the guide or drivingv spindle should; always. coincide iWllZh the center of the guide'ring whether the guide ring is stationary or moves up and down.
It is often desirable alsonto change the size of the rings from largento smaller or vice versa audit is always desirableto have the ringsso attached-to the'ring rail that $5 they can readily be others. l
This invention provides means whereby the ring rail or what serves the function of the. usual'ring. rail is soanade and is so g prov ded' with rmg supporting-means that peachring can be adjusted inall directions backand forthandright and left to correctly center it on thespindle.
This is ery important becauselif the spindle is off center, the rovingo'ryarn'is much more likely to break.
In my preferred form, I also p rovide means between the ring and itsfsuPPOrting plate wherebythe parts can be quickly as 'senibled or disassembled and ringsof yarious sizes can be substituted' on'c 'for the other.
standard form of traveler holding ring *5 without alteration and can readily remove and replace'suc'h' ring. In the preferred form Without changing the rail orsupport using a splltwasher 102 for 1 the rings; by change thesize' of the rings.
.The:Q-P inici al ;advantage of iny devi removed;and-replacedby 1 In any 'formot my deviceI can use the.
however; is the fact'that in any preferred I type. ofsupporting plate, byloo'se ning two screws or bolts I can center the ring on the spindle very quickly and thenbyftighten- Jm'g the screws orlthe. nuts on thetwo bolts fix it'in the correct position. 13 A bolts, the bolt heads. are. at-the top and can myarrangement-of clamps, ears, and

of the general means T by which said supports S, S carrying the rods A and B are moved up and down., I i
The rods A and Bare carried respectively by the arms 1 and 2 and means to move them, T, may include leverssuch as 7.015,
the type similar to those shown in my application for United States Letters Patent,
Feb.4,1930.
Slidable on each red A and B are the oppositelydisposed clamps C and C each comprisingtwo members suchas 10, 12 and 11, 13. Eachset of members such as 10,
pending herewith Serial No. 425,867,.filed 12 is moved so as to receive and slide on a rod such as B and each has a bolt hole such 14,a11d'114 represent the adjusting bolts' for each clamp and these bolts serve two purposes. i v By loosening the nuts such as 19 or 119,
the'clamps can be moved along the rods and the plate 'F can be 'moved back and forth between the rods'thereby securing-an universal adjustment. In any preferred device, I use aj-s'plit 'asher L which fits into or can be sprung into a ring hole 20, such washer terminating at"40 and 41 which allows it to be sprungv into position.
' By means of the two clamp'screws 42' and '43 which pass through flange 24 of plate F and bear against the split washer on each side, of the split, a traveler car'rying ring such as H of a well kn owntype can be 'insorted into the split washer Land -firmly held, in place by scrcwing up clamp screws '42 and43. I A I K represents a. iravclerof any usual type. In Fig. 5, I show another size of split washer M having endsbO and51' and only one clamp screw such as 52.
By using split washers "of different sizes,
every case the ring" cankbe absolutely centered on the center of thSPlIlCllG.
In many casesit is not necessary to" use a split washer asthe travelerfguide ringcan be held in position 'directlyinthe ring hole in the supporting plate as shown in flFig 6. -The ring P is of; such si'ze th'atf'it fits set screws 64 and 65. See Fig.
plate thus reducing the number of of the split.
I easily in the ring hole 20 and is held in place by a clamp screw 25 which passes through the flange 24 in the same manner as 42, 43 and '52.
Instead of having a movable ring holding rail, I mayfit the ends such as and 61 of the rods A and B in sockets such as62 and (ii-{which are part of the permanent frame R and I mayhold the rods A and B as by As shown in 8, I may use adjusting Screws such as 74 which pass through slots such as 22 in an ear such as 21 then through yaihole72in onemember 'of a clamp such as V and into a hole 73 in the other member 71. By tightening or loosening this screw 7 4 the parts can be quickly adjusted. v
' As shown in Fig.9, I can combine one clamp member or jaw with the supporting parts and simplifying the construction.
'In' Fig. 9, represents adower jaw or clamp member havinga recess Ell-which fits partlyaround a rodzsu pport A and an adjusting hole 82 threaded to receive and- 1:- justing member shown as-a screw 74 which passes through the adjusting slot 22 inan ear 21,the"parts being so arranged that when adjustingin'ember 74 is tightened, the lower face 27- of ear 21.will-nip rod'A and 25 in cooperation with member '80 will fix the supporting 'Iclann: 1.
