Abstract

345,201. Creel arrangements for yarn winding machines. LANGSTRETH, M., Dunlop Cotton Mills, Osnaburgh Street, London, NASMITH, F., Universal Winding Co., Saville Street, Manchester, and DUNLOP COTTON MILLS, Ltd., Osnaburgh Street, London. Nov. 14, 1929, No. 34826. [Class 120 (ii).] In apparatus for supplying yarn, thread, wire, &c. from bobbins, pirns, cops, cones, cheeses, &c. to a winding, doubling, or twisting machine, &c. wherein a plurality of ends of yarn &c. are wound simultaneously on to one package to be used for wire covering &c., each end has a plurality of alternative supply spindles turning about a vertical pivot and constituting a magazine supply. Each end of yarn &c. is drawn consecutively from bobbins 18 carried on a turntable 17 prevented from accidental rotation by a spring plate 35 and a nut &c. 36 and preferably dished to make the spindle axes convergent towards the axis of rotation of the turntable 17, such axes being convergent towards the axis of rotation of a main turntable 13 on which they are carried preferably by being supported at the ends of V-shaped brackets 16, one of which is mounted at the end of each of five radial arms. On the pillar 12 on which the turntable 13 is supported by a sleeve 14, is also a rotatable head 19 carrying tension discs 25, 26 between which the yarn passes, the tension being adjustable by weighting the upper disc, the lower disc 25 having a projection 27 to receive the upper disc 26. The disc 25 is supported from the head 19 by a wire bent double round a screw &c. 30 one end being bent to form a pigtail, and the other to the shape shown, forming a thread-guide 21, 22 and a seating and central pillar to receive the disc 25 and projection 27. To the pillar 12 is fixed a cap 32 with pigtails 31, and a base 10 for attachment to a winding machine &c. The arrangement enables the operator to rotate the main and sub-turntables for replenishing supplies &c. The Provisional Specification describes a construction for a parallel winding or cheesing machine having five subturntables.
