To complete the circuit the tuning device (1 by means of. suitable electrical connection preferably in the form of flexible cords is attached as indicated in Fig. 1 to the terminals 06 and 07- so that the tuning device (13 is looped into the plate circuit and furnishes means for tuning the plate circuit of any tube to which the connector-may be applied.
Fig. 6 shows a modified form of connector in which an auxiliary socket 08 is provided preferably of insulating material. This auxiliary socket has four terminals, only two, 5 and 6, being shown in; this drawing. All of these terminals on the auxiliary socket with the exception of that corresponding to the tube terminal 2 will be provided with contacts 09 which engage the tube terminals and establishes a connection between said tube terminal (when it is in place) and the auxiliary socket terminal. The socket terminal 5 corresponding to the tube terminal 2 is connected to a lead 010 which extends to the outside of the auxiliary socket .and a. contact 011 on the interior oflthe auxiliary socket by a lead 012 which extends to the outside of the auxiliary socket andthi s contact 011 is adapted to make electrical connection with the plate terminal 2 when the tub'eis in place. It will be under stood that the leads from the tuning device (Z will in this case be continuations of leads 010 and 012.
In establishing the connection with this form of connector a tube is removed and the auxiliary socket is placed into the regular tube socket after which the tube is inserted in the connector socket the upper plate 013 successfully consists of a coil d, a contact d2 pivoted at d3 and provided with a handle d4 and a pointer or index hand d5 moving over a graduated scale d6. When in the zero s1- tion this tuning device will have no a ecton the incoming signals, but as the hand d4 is moved along the scale a greater or less number of turns of the coil (11 are included in the plate circuit, thus tuning the plate circuit to the incoming si nals.

A connector for thermionic tubes embodying a disk of insulating material whose outer periphery is approximately coextensive with the base of the tube and having perforations to receive the legs of the tube, a contacting device adjacent one of the perforations and adapted to engage with the tube leg which projects therethrough and a separate contacting device connected to the under side of the disk and having an ofiset portion which projects in line with the axis of the opening through which the leg extends and below the contacting device adapted to engage said leg, said offset contacting device being insulated on its upper side to prevent electrical contacts with the projecting tube leg and two invention, I
independent thin metallic strips connected to the respective contacting devices and around the periphery of the disk and adapted to project upwardly along the base of the tube and between said base and the tube socket, said metallic strips being insulated.
