c The present day construction ofpaving machines generally includes charglnganeans for the mixing drum in the form of a pivoted loading skip which is located endwise -wit'h 1;; respect'to the machine; This loading skip is adapted to assume a position on theground wherein it receives aggregates to-be charged into the mixer, and issusceptible to opera- 7 tion so that it may be moved into a position in which the aggregates-are discharged into the drum. In thenow known types of load ing skips, a large amount of apparatus is necessarily included in the paving machine a with the peration of the skip as their only '5 function. a a I a I propose by the paving machine'that is directly associated with the skip'and its operation. In attaining this end, I: employ a skip of particnlarly novel construction which is characterized by the utmost simplicity.
More particularly, I avail of rolling members in the form of lobes which are rigidly aflixed to the skip itself and' which, upon movement on inclined trackwaysincorpo- 1 rated into the COIlStIllCt'lOIl of the mixer, move theloading skip from a loadingto adiseharging position, 'or'vice versa. f
A particularly noteworthy feature of'the invention is the arrangementof'skip hoist cable means employed in conjunction-with the lobes on the skip. This feature minimizes to the greatest possible extent, the amount a) of force needed to elevatethe skip. lnf the old construction very often 'a'la rge amount of energy was expended due to the'pivoted arrangement of the skip wherein pull was exerted from the point below the radial l center of the skips arcuate travel. My novel construction completely obviates this condition. A more particular object of the invention is the provision-of means for insuring the smoothand even movement of the skip 1 during its operation. In achieving this object stabilizing cables are employed which are properly arranged with respect to the track ways and lobes to govern movementof the I r n as applied'to a. pav ng machlne, parts or the latterbeing pmittedi:
latter with the former. Preferably two cables are employed in conjunction with each this inventionto eliminate to a certain degree the apparatus included in lobe andits' corresponding way. One cable has one end fast to the upper end or" the way with its other end anchored adjacent to the "extremity of the lobe resting on the track {when the skip is in loading position, while "theother cable-has one'end affixed to the lower "end of'tlie track and is passed over the lobe with'itsother end anchored to the skip adjacent the other extremity of thecnrb working surface of the lobe member. 4
Another point'of novelty included in a skip made inaccordance with my invention that is worthy oi stressing", is the particular constrnction of the skip itself. 7 This member includes" awide'o'pen noutli which is adapted 'to"rece1ve'- theaggregates and has at its other end a constricted throat or neck portion term nating in a d scharge opening. The embodiment of these last mentioned features in my novel skipenable it to assume a position in whichthejcomplete discharge of the aggrej 'gatesinto thedru n is assured. For the purpose ofjinsnring the operation of the lobes on a track during all stages of operation and to positively-inhibit their leaving said. -track 'ways,-their latter parts are provided with flanges which prevent any sidewise motion of the lobe members. In preferred ,Fuither, more detailed objects and advantages, jwill in part become apparent and in part behereinafter stated, as the "description 'of'th'e invention proceeds For a full and i'more complete understand ng thereof, referen'ce may be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which;-
