This invention relates to valve locks and has particular adaptation with a liquid supply pipe line. i Oneof the objects of the invention is to pro- 1 5'vide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth,
for. preventing unauthorized persons from withdrawing the liquid from the pipe line and is particularly applicable to'preventing theft of automobiles wherein the lock is inserted in the gasoline line.
Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a lock of the character described, which is strong, compact and durable, highly efficient for its intended purpose, thoroughly reliable inits operation, easily attachable to standard parts, very simple in its assembly. and comparativelyinexpensive to manufacture and install.
,With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter will be more specifically, described andillustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein an embodiment of the invention is disclosed but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the claims hereunto appended. v I

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein is disclosed an embodiment of the invention, 5 indicates .a substantially cylindrical valve casing, the bottom of which merges into a longitudinally extending tubular portion 6 having a longitudinal passage 7 extending entirely through the tubular portion 6. It is pointed out that the outer surface of the tubular portion 6 may be formed of polygonal contour as will be understood by reference to Figure l of the drawings.
The opposite ends of the longitudinal passage 7 may be threaded as at 8, 9 to which are connected the opposed ends 10, 11 of a liquid Supply pipe such as gasoline, water or the The casing 5 and tubular portion 6 are formed with a circular opening 12 which extends entirely through both members in a transverse direction, the lower end of which communicates with a circular cavity 13 formed on the bottom of the tubular portion 6.
The cavity 13 is of greater diameter than the continuous opening 12. Rotatably mounted in the continuous circular cavity 12 is a valve stem 14:, the lower end of which projects into the cavity 13, and the upper end of thesa-id valve stem projects above the upper face of the casing and is formed with an annular turning cap 15 formed integral therewith.

In locked position, with the keyl'? removedas shown in Figure 5 of the. drawings, the pins 18 extend through slots 17 into of registration with the diametric slot 16, out these pins 18'are still projected into the V segmental slots 17. In this latter position,
*as shown in Figure 2,the valve stem is free to turn, and since these segmental slots 17 extend around a quadrant of the circumterence of the valve stem, the said valve stem is permitted to turn 90 to bring the opening 26 into registration with the passage 7. The position of the pins 18 in the slots 17, when the valve is opened, is clearly shown in Figure -6 of the drawings.
- Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1; "In a valve "lock 'otthe character described, comprising a valve casing formed with a continuous passage therethrough, said casin-ggb'eing formedgwith a bore extending through the casing and across the passage, said casing" also being-formed with a recess communicating with one end of the b orep'a cap bushing seated in said recessand having a socket fthere'in registering withlsaid one' end-of the bore, a valve stem having an opening for selective registration Withsaid passage, said valve stem being rotatable in the bore and having one end'rotata'ble in said socket, said valve stem being formed with a circumferential groove on that portion seated in said socket, expansible 7 keys mounted in said cap bushing having one endof each engaging with said peripheral groove, and the other end of each engage able-with the walls of the recess for locking the 'valve stem against longitudinal movement,- the said valve s'terns being-formed with a diametrickey way throughaporti'on of its length and also being formed- -with peripheral slots communicating with said key way, slidable pins mounted in the casing and projecting through said-slots into said key way, anda key inserta'blejin the key way for moving the pins in one direction.
