In said position the bolt 61 is moved'into position to engage the retaining members 59 and 60 and maintain the leg and its extension in alignment, and it is when said bolt is slid into engagement with the retaining member 60 on the leg extension 56 that a lug 63 on the 'bolt, engages a pin 64 on the chair frame and holds the leg in its. folded position.

lVhen the lower or extension member 56 of the leg is not in use and the unit is in the'form I of a chair or bed, it is swung into engagement with the brace 47 (see Fig. 6) where it is secured in any preferred manner.

Arm 34ofthe chair (see'Flgs. 1, 2, 5 and 7) are so formed as to fill the cut-away portion 38 in the side memln-xrs of the back. The arm is mounted atits rear end on a. bracket 65 secured on the inner face of member 36 by a swivel )OlIlt 66 or one permitting universal V movement of the arm, whereby same may be flat'metal support 67 having a swivel connection 68 with the arm and provided with a slot 69, enlarged at 70, the latter to pass over a headed pin 71 mounted in the seat frame see Figs. 4 and 5). By said means the outer end of the arm 4 is firmly held in position when the unit is used as a chair or if the arm 4 is lifted to bring the enlarged portion of slot 69'into position to beremoved from pin 71, thesupport 67 may be folded up against the inner faceof-arm 4 and said arm be turned andadjusted into cut-away portion 38 as described, where it maybe retained in any preferred manner;

By reference to Figs. 1,4, 5 and 7 will be seen aligning and retaining plates 7 2, mounted 1 the cut r ac fihe t r e nd ranged to project slightly above the upper edge of members 7. And when the back 2 of the chair is folded down on the seat frame as a table-or for packing, the widened ends of the side members 7 rest within said plates 72 and are held firmly against lateral movement.

The cushions are preferably of a box frame construction consisting of a metal frame 73 in which springs 74 are mounted and are covered by padding 75 of any preferred character, the construction being similar to that of a removable auto seat. The cushions are made in pairs 76-77, correspondin in every way as to thickness, length and wldth. Cushion 7 6 is adapted to form the major part of the back cushion and rests when the unit is used as a chair, as a table or when packed, between the side members .36 of the back 2. The roll 78 at the top of the back is preferably padded and tufted and covered by the same material as the cushions.

The other cushion 77 is adapted to form the seat of the chair and the two cushions 76 and 77 being identical, will permit interchangeable and reversible adjustment as to their positions at the back or seat of the chair. If preferred, the cushion 7 6 may be secured at 79 to cushion 77, which will permit the adjustment of one cushion by the other.

The drawer 11 in the seat and compartment 80 in the back are provided for the reception, primarily, of bedclothing, but may be used for other purposes if desired, the drawer is designed to receive one or two blankets and two sheets folded flat.

l Vith' a pillow and one or two extra pillow cases in the chair back, and two sheets and two blankets in the drawer, the two chairs which are necessary for one bed, will contain ample covering and changes required to provide a comfortable and hygienic bed.

In operation, by reference to Figs. 5 and 6, the unit is arranged as a chair which approximates very closely a Morris chair as to appearance and comfort, and in fact possesses .11

greater comfort, due to the fact that the seat and back cushions are of a full box spring construction, while the Morris chairs are provided with simply a springless pad packed with cotton or hair.

In Figs. 7 and 8 the unit is shown as a table with the back of the chair folded down and the solid back of the chair forming the table .top. As a table the arms 4 are folded into space between and lieflush with the enlarged end portions of the side members of the chair back and the legs arelengthened by swinging their extensions into position.-

In Figs. 1. 2, 3 and 4 the unit is arranged as a couch with two chairs facing each other and having their extensions brought together and the seat cushions advanced, with the back cushions slid down inrear of the seat cushions to complete a couch of box spring construction, having head and foot boards.
