MI5- f Ear/velz" Patented Dec. 30, 1930 UNITED STATES EDWARD n. HARPER, on PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA FORM :FOR MODDING CONCRETE AND cnMENT' Application filed May 17,
This invention relates to a steel or other metallic form to be used in place of lumber, in poured concrete or similar work so as to affect material saving both in the cost of labor and material.
It is further aimed to provide a novel construction made up of units or sections which may be secured together by means provided thereon and in combination with battens.
10.y It is further aimed to provide a novel construction wherein a sectional unit may be' used interchangeably for vertical or horizontal work so that the sections may be built up according to the shape and size of the proposed erection. y
More specilic objects and advantages; wiil become apparent or be pointed out in a conf sideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawings illustrating an operative form.

used to build up forms for `columns A and for a deck B, each being hollow as best seen in Figure 2 and adapted to have concrete or the like poured therein. f
In making up thefforms, a plurality of generally rectangular sections designated 10 are used. Each of these sections consists essentially of a metallic sheet 11, for instance of steel, which has a backing of wood 12 suitably fastened thereto by nails, rivets, bolts or other fastening means as at 13.
Cil
Each plate 11 has preferably two struck out corrugations or ribs as at 14 for strengthen ing Vpurposes especially under the stresses imposed when pouring concrete vinto the form. L These sections or units 10 may be of any lengthandpwidth or size desired. Along. one longitudinal side edge, each unit 10 hasa plurality of latch members 15 pivotally connected thereto as at 16 and each I having a slot at17 to engage stationary latch or lkeeper members y18 which may be rigidly fastened as at 19 to the opposite longitudinalside edge portions of the units.
It will be seen as shown in Figure 9 that some of the unitsV have Vthe pivoted latches 15 alongl one edge and the stationarylatch members 18 along the other edge. Other units 10, asv shown4 in Figure 10, have the pivoted latches 15 along each longitudinal edge, ithose along one edgebeing outwardly offset by means of blocks or the like 19a fastened to the plates 11. It will thus be seen' that the unitsmay be arranged in pluralities so -as tol form the columns A or the deck B with the latches 15 engaging adjacent vstationary latches 18 to hold the units against fdisplaceme'nt.. In the case of the uppermost unit forming the deck, latches may be omitted at the upper edges.
In order to secure the units together at their ends, the reenforcing ribs or corrugations 14 are cut off short of their ends to provide shoulders as at 20 which are engaged by strips or battens 21, for instance of wood. The battens are also supported by brackets 22 fastened to the plates 11 at the ends of the units. Such brackets have outer portions 23 which overlap the battens so that they will be held in place.
The elements 23 have openings 24 therethrough whereby nails, spikes or the like may be driven into the battens. It will be seen therefore that the battens 21 where used 5 between sections overlap the ends thereof and the junction lines therebetween.
The meeting ends of the units forming the deck B, as in'F-igure l, may be supported or braced by a suitable structure C. arranged in contact with the adjacent batten 2l. Y
As shown in Figure 3, the form may be as-v sembled, lea-ving a space as at D between the units forming the deckB so as to accommoy date the building up of a central column in the form and its connection therewith.
Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention. v Y
I claim as my invention 1. A form of theclass described comprising units, latch means securing the units together, said units having reenforcing members terminating short of their ends to pro vide shoulders, battens for securing the sections together end to end engaging said shoulders, and brackets on the sections engaging said battens.
k2. A unit for forms of 'the class described comprising a plate adapted to be secured to adjacent plates, said yirst plate having a reenforcing member, said member terminating short of one'end of the first plate to provide a shoulder for engagement with a batten, and bracket means on the iirst plate to also engage such batten.
3. vA unit for'use in a form of the class describedrcomprisng a plate, latch means along longitudinal edges of the plate, brackets adjacent anend of the plate for engage- 40 ment with a batten, and reenorcingmea-ns for the plate terminating short of said end to provide shouldersto engage the batten.
4; A unit for use in a form of the class described comprising a metallic plate adapted for connection. to adjacent plates, said plate Ahaving an integral reenforcing memberterminatingshort of both ends thereof to provide shoulders, said shoulders being adapted to engage battens, and brackets ad- 53 jacent one end of the plate to also engage l the adjacent battens.
