My invention has for its object to provide a new and improved exhaust whistle. for automobiles, etc. and it particularly seeks to provide a whistle ot'th'e character statec 5 ot a simple inexpensive construction and one which will give 1 a multitone effect.
"Furtheniit is an object of the invention to provide an exhaustiwhistle that can be attached to theend of the exhaust pipe by any-' Further. it is-an ob ect toprovide an exhaust whistle of the two-note type in which both whistle barrels are made as one pipe and are controlled by a single valve.
Other objects will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out hereinafter.
To the attainment of the aforesaid objects and ends, the invention still further resides in the novel details of construction, combination andarrangement of parts, all of which will be first fully described in the following 30' detailed description, then be particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an inverted plan oft-he end of an exhaust pipe beyond the muiiler with my invention applied.

Referring now to the drawings in which like numerals of reference designate like parts in all of the figures, 1 represents the exhaust pipe of the vehicle which, in apply 'ing my invention, is provided with a hole 2 over which thewhistle clamp block 3 is held, the block 3 having a seat 4 and a strap 7 5 for securing it firmly in place on the exhust pipe. r
A second seat 8 is provided'tor the whistle tube and the block 3 is also provided with clamping studs 6 and nuts 7 for securing the strap 5 in place. 7
The whistle tube is heldin the seat 8 by means of clamp lugs 9 and screws 10 so that it can be easily removed whendesired.
The block 3 is provided with a port 11 for delivering the exhaust from the exhaust pipe ihole2 through the block 3 to the whistle con-v trolling valve. The block 3 has a whistle valve seat 12 against which the open end of the tubular whistle valve :21 is adapted to contact.

Between the openings 14: and 15 within the whistle pipe is a dividing plug 17 which has a valve seat 18 for the valve 21 to rotate in and it also has air passes 19 and 20, the outlets of which are adjacent the openings 14 and 15. The valve 21 is provided withan elongated slot 22 which is adapted when the valve is in one position to be closed by the plug 17; and when the valve has been rotated to another position it communicates Wltl'l the passes 19 and 20, the valve being provided with an arm 23 by means of which it may be turned.
The exhaust pipe blocking valve mechanism comprises a valve 24: having pivot cars 25 with stops 26 pivoted to a mounting block 28 and held open normally by a spring 27, there being a clamp device 29, provided for securing the exhaust pipe blocking valve mechanism to the end of the exhaust pipe 1.
A pull wire 30 is connected to the valve 24 and to the lever 23 in such a way that by pulling this wire the operator may efi'ect more or less of a closure of the exhaust pipe blocking valve 2 and asimultaneous opening of communication between the interior of the valve'21 via slot 22to the passes19 and 20,
thereby operating the whistle.
If desired, and particularly if the exhaust whistle be mounted adjacent the extreme or outlet end of the exhaust pipe 1, the valve 24 may be omitted. \Vhere, however, the whistle is mounted a considerable distance from the end of the exhaust pipe it is necessary to use the valve 24 in order to give sufficient back pressure to force the exhaust gases through the whistle.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought the complete construction, operation and advantages of my invention will be clear to those skilled in the art to which it relates.
What I claim is: p
1. In exhaust whistles, the combination with the exhaust pipe having a port in its wall, a whistle clamp block secured thereto over said port and itself having a port registering with said exhaust pipe port, a whistle pipe secured to said clamp block, a Whistle controlling valve mounted on said pipe and registering with said clamp block port, a whistle dividing block having a seat for said valve, said whistle pipe having an opening at each end of said dividing block, and said dividing block having air passages to each opening controlled by said valve, plugs in the ends of said whistle pipe, and means to operate said valve.
2. In exhaust whistles, the combination with the exhaust pipe having a port in its wall, a whistle clamp block securedthereto over said port and itself having a port registering with said exhaust pipe port, a whislte pipe secured to said clamp block, a whistle controlling valve mounted on said pipe and registering with said clamp block port, a whistle dividing block having a seat for said valve, said whistle pipe having an opening at each end of said dividing block, and said dividing block having air passages to each opening controlled by said valve, plugs in the ends of said whistle pipe, combined with an exhaust pipe outlet blocking valve and a single means to operate said valves together.
3. In exhaust whistles, the combination with the exhaust pipe having a port in its wall, a whistle clamp block secured thereto over said port and itself having a port registering with said exhaust pipe port, a whistle pipe secured to said clamp block, a whistle controlling valve mounted on said pipe and registering with said clamp block port, a whistle dividing block having a seat for said valve, said whistle pipe having an opening at each end of said dividing block, and said dividing block having air passages to each opening controlled by said valve, plugs in the ends of said whistle pipe, and means to operate said valve, said whistle valve lying parallel to said exhaust pipe. 7

In exhaust whistles, the combination with the exhaust pipe having a port in its wall, a whistle clamp block secured thereto over said port and itself having a port registering with said exhaust pipe port, a whistle pipe secured to said clamp block, a whistle controlling valve mounted on said pipe and registering with said clamp block port, a whistle dividing block having a seat for said valve, said whistle pipe having an opening at each end of said dividing block, and said dividing block having air passages to each opening controlled by said valve, plugs in the ends of said whistle pipe, combined with an exhaust pipe outlet blocking valve and a single means to operate said valves together, said whistle valve lying parallel to said exhaust pipe.
5. In exhaust whistles, the combination with the exhaust pipe having a port in its wall, a whistle clamp block secured thereto over said port and itself having a port registering with said exhaust pipe port, a whistle pipe secured to said clamp block, a whistle controlling valve mounted on said pipe and registering with said clamp block port, a whistle dividing block having a seat for said valve, said whistle pipe having an opening at each end of said dividing block, and said dividing lock having air passages to each opening controlled by said valve, plugs in the ends of said whistle pipe, combined with an exhaust pipe outlet blocking valve and a single means to operate said valves together, said exhaust pipe blocking valve comprising a plate valve with hinged cars, a mounting block and a clamping device and a valve opening spring.
