COMES.
Patented June13,1876.'

UNITE STATES JULIUS W. FLEISOHMANN, OF WILLIAMSBURG, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMES.-
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,619, dated June 13, 1876 application filed May 8, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, JULIUS W. FLEISOH- MANN, of Williamsburg, Kings county, State of New York, have invented a certain 1mprovement in the Head-Pieces of Combs, of which the following is a specification My improvement is applicable to any comb which has a head-piece; and my invention consists in a head-piece provided with one or more openings suitable for containing one or piece I). In the head-piece b, as-shown, there are three openings for the reception of pietnres or medallions. Two of these openings, respectively, contain the pictures 0 and (I, while the other opening 6 is represented "as it appears before the picture is inserted in it. The appearance of the structure in front is that of a head-piece containing the three picture frames f f f. v A shoulder, g, is formed on the back side of the head-piece around. the edge of each opening. The shoulder y constitutes the bearing for the edge of the medallion or picture, and the picture is secured in position by means of the back plate h, which is aflixed to the back side of the head-piece by the rivets i i, or by any other suitable means.
It is obvious that the shape of the openings in the head-piece may be varied to correspond with the shapes of pictures or medallions of different forms, and that a narrow annulus may be riveted to the back side of the headpiece as a substitute for the back plate, for the purpose of confining the medallion orpicture in its seat.
What I claim as my invention isl. The head-piece or back of a comb when provided with one or more picture-frames, substantially as shown and described.
2. The shoulder g forming the seat for a medallion or picture, in combination with the back plate It riveted or otherwise affixed to the head-piece, substantially as described.
